Ferite profonde di una grande paura / Deep wounds of a great fear

Forgive me if the blog has currently no news. There would be lots of things to tell, but what happened the night between Sunday and Monday was terrible for us all.

Ho ancora le ferite del terremoto dell’80 in Irpinia. Avevo dieci anni.
I still have the scars of the earthquake in Irpinia in 1980. I was ten.
To date I still have a great fear.
There is nothing more unpleasant of noting our inability opposite to the force of the Earth.
It reminds us that we are fragile beings, completely dependent from it.

Sunday night we felt a shock of lesser intensity here in Romagna and had already heard from friends and relatives that a number of earthquakes had previously concerned the region of Abruzzo.
During the night I heard a suspected ticking.
But we didn’t expect to wake up in the morning with news of such a tragedy.

Then, after a few minutes we had news that involved us indirectly. My companion immediately left for Abruzzo to take his mother. Her house is damaged by the earthquake, but fortunately she is well and she’s here with us now.

There was an inevitable sense of escaped danger, but I am deeply disturbed by the pictures taken... and what happened to us is nothing compared to what many families are living.

Our hearts are now close to all those people who have immediate suffering and deprivation of affections and goods. And our thoughts go even to those who simply need to find serenity and strength to restart again.

  4. capisco il vostro stato d'animo.
qui a Roma si è sentita forte e a lungo in quella dannata notte e ancora ieri mattina, ieri sera e ancora stamattina.

  6. Crepi il lupo!
Valeria cara, so bene quello che state passando anche a Roma.

  7. So glad to hear you are safe..!! I did hear about it on the radio & wondered if you are okay...

Maybe this earthquake will at least help convince the authorities that nuclear powerplants are a bad idea?
And to be nicer to Mother Nature?
There is a reason for the earthquakes, with all the drilling etc, & I am not surprised at all, though it is very sad to hear..
What people have been doing to Earth was very bad, and she may be fighting back at times... no wonder..
I just hope people wake up in time to prevent further tragedies like this.. and make a better future for us all..

    (((hugs)))

  8. Hi dear Layla,
Thank you so much for your hugs! There's a great need to be consoled now!
We are still very shocked for all is happened 'till now!

Mother Earth is very strong and this events demonstrate that she's still live!
There's no reason for earthquakes and earth behaviour but there are surely reasons for human disasters!

I hope that these disasters may serve to the authorities to be more careful in building every king of great constructions, as i.e. nuclear powerplants! Another example is the bridge on the Narrow of Messina, which this government want to build at any cost, in a place highly exposed to earthquakes!

And there are also guilts for some building companies which mixed sand to concrete in most of the structures of the more recent buildings of L'Aquila.

So angry, not only for lack of respect in front of nature, but also in front of human beings!

  10. Grazie Max!
