Oltre il mare... / Beyond the sea...

Siamo giunti ad ottobre, ed è già autunno… fino a qualche giorno fa sembrava addirittura inverno e invece, domenica scorsa è rispuntato un bel sole, nel pomeriggio! Proprio quando ci voleva!
Infatti io e Irish avevamo programmato di fare visita ad un parco tematico a Riccione, Oltremare, ormai famoso per la pubblicità del “delfino curioso”.
We came in October, and it is already autumn ... until a few days ago it seemed even winter and, instead, last Sunday a beautiful sun rose in the afternoon! Just when we wanted it!
In fact Irish and me had planned to visit a park in Riccione, Oltremare, now famous for the advertising of the “curious dolphin”.

Beh, non è che a me piaccia molto vedere gli animali allevati in cattività, specialmente per un ricordo poco bello che ho di uno zoo-safari, quando ero molto piccola, però è stato un nostro amico che ci lavora ad invitarci a visitarlo. Ci ha raccontato tanto della varietà degli animali, della struttura che li ospita, dell’organizzazione che li segue, della rigidità nei controlli e nelle cure… quindi, abbiamo aspettato un weekend, libero da impegni e ormai privo del caos turistico dei mesi precedenti, per andarci. E dentro di me sono andata con tanta curiosità soprattutto per i delfini, animali che non avevo mai visto in vita mia!
Well, I don’t like too much seeing animals reared in captivity, especially for a bad memory I have of a safari-zoo, when I was a child, but our friend, that works there, encouraged us to visit it. He told us of the variety of animals, of the structure of their host, of the organization that follows them and of the stiffness in checks and care... So, to go there, we waited a weekend free of commitments and now of the tourism chaos of previous months. And within me I went with great curiosity especially for the dolphins, animals that I had not ever seen before in my life!

La struttura effettivamente si presenta bene, immersa nelle colline erdi a monte di Riccione, senza costruzioni invadenti: gli unici abbastanza visibili sono l’edificio del cinema 3d e quello che ospita “Il viaggio nel tempo” e “Hippocampus”, ma comunque molto integrati nell’andamento del terreno circostante. All’ingresso qualcuno potrebbe rimanere spiacevolmente impressionato dai prezzi dei biglietti, ma posso garantire che, sapendo ciò che c’è dietro e avendo visitato il parco, sono tutti bigliettoni che vale assolutamente la pena di spendere!
The structure is really good, nestled in the green hills upstream of Riccione, without intrusive construction: the only quite visible are the building of 3d cinema and the one hosting “The time journey” and “Hippocampus”, but very integrated in patterns of the surrounding land. On entering someone could remain unpleasantly impressed by the ticket prices, but I can guarantee that, knowing what is behind and having visited the park, all money are worth to be spent!

Ci si dirige dall’entrata verso una sorta di giardino chiamato “Lungofiume”. Qui sono piantate essenze e altri tipi di vegetazione che richiamano gli ambienti naturali fluviali. Si possono riconoscere attraverso i cartelli e le spiegazioni. Sono anche esposti alcuni oggetti di civiltà contadina, che contornano le piantagioni di uva e alberi da frutto, tipiche della zona.
We go to a sort of garden named “Lungofiume”. Here there are essences and other types of vegetation planted to recall the natural river environments. You may recognize them through the signs and explanations. There are also some objects of farming culture exposed, with surrounded plantations of grapes and fruit trees, typical of the area.

Attraversato questo viale si arriva all’ingresso vero e proprio dove una grande meridiana situata sul pavimento segna il tempo attuale e prelude all’imminente viaggio temporale nella natura. Qui intorno si trovano anche tutti i punti informativi, ristoro e shopping.
Ma noi ci siamo subito diretti a salutare il nostro amico presso la “Laguna dei delfini”. E lì è stato amore a prima vista: queste creature sono magnifiche! Nuotano nella grande vasca azzurra e sembrano divertirsi un mondo! È proprio vero che sono curiosi questi delfini, tanto che uno di loro, il più piccolo, vede movimento e si ferma in un punto lontano ma in nostra direzione e si posiziona a galleggiare di fianco, così che con un occhio ci osserva e dopo, per richiamare la nostra attenzione e farsi notare, comincia ad emettere degli strani schiocchi! In pratica sembra averci dato il benvenuto!
Già so che questi animali tanto particolari più tardi mi faranno provare delle emozioni incredibili!
Through this avenue we arrive at the true entrance where a large sundial lying on the floor marks the current time and prelude the imminent time travel in nature. Around here you could find all the information points, refreshment and shopping.
But we are directed to greet our friend at the “Dolphin Lagoon”. And there was love at first sight: these creatures are magnificent! They swim in the big blue tub and seem a fun world! It is true that these dolphins are curious, so much that one of them, the smallest, sees the move and stop at a distant point, but in our direction, and floats on one side, so that with one eye observe us, and to draw our attention on him and getting noticed, begins to make strange pop! In practice he seems giving us welcome!
Already I know that these particular animals so later will make me feel incredible emotions!

Così dopo i saluti cominciamo per conto nostro i giri, che dovremo fare abbastanza velocemente perché gli spettacoli sono programmati e si avvicendano senza soluzione di continuità.
So after the greetings we begin our tours behalf, we should do it fairly quickly because the shows are programmed and rotated seamless continuity.

Dedichiamo la prima visita di quindici minuti alla struttura che ospita la mostra permanente sui cavallucci marini. Anche queste sono splendide creaturine che sembrano quasi mitologiche. Fa un effetto strano osservarle in acquari che, sappiamo, debbono essere costantemente tenuti sotto controllo. Perché questi animali sono molto delicati e hanno bisogno di habitat e nutrimento molto particolari. Alcune specie sono veramente incredibili, come i ‘dragoni foglia’ che sembrano quella finta vegetazione negli acquari delle nostre case, oppure i cavallucci minuscoli che sembrano creature di un mini-pianeta, insieme ad altri invertebrati dalle forme molto bizzarre!
We dedicate the first visit of fifteen minutes to the facility that houses the permanent exhibit on seahorses. These are beautiful little creatures that seem almost mythological. It makes a strange effect to comply in aquariums, that must be constantly kept under control. Because these animals are very sensitive and they need very specific food and habitat. Some species are truly incredible, like ‘leaf dragons’ that appear that fake vegetation in aquariums of our homes, or that little seahorses that are tiny creatures that appear to be a mini-planet, along with other very bizarre shaped invertebrates!

Uscendo da questa struttura sferica ci si può inoltrare nei piani sotterranei, dove si può visitare una sorta di “serra primordiale” (“Darwin”) e si possono ammirare i pesci e altre specie marine che appartengono ai nostri mari da vicino, nella “Baia delle razze”, e in magnifiche enormi ricostruzioni che costeggiano i corridoi. Attraversando questi si passa davanti alle grandi vetrate che permettono di osservare i delfini sott’acqua, fino ad arrivare al vero e proprio parco all’aperto.
Leaving this round structure we can go to underground floors, where you can see a sort of ‘primordial greenhouse’ (called “Darwin”) and you can admire the fish and other marine species that belong to our seas closely, in the “Bay of breeds”, and magnificent huge reconstruction along the corridors. Through them you pass in front of the large windows that allow to observe the dolphins underwater, until you get to the truth outdoor park.

Ci dirigiamo quindi velocemente verso la “Fattoria”, un gruppo di casette e stalla annessa su cui si affaccia un’arena che è gremita di gente. Il canto di un gallo dà inizio allo spettacolo e un simpatico fattore comincia a raccontarci allegramente la tipica giornata di una fattoria facendoci fare la conoscenza di tantissimi animali, anche quelli meno consueti come il riccio, l’istrice, il furetto, il pellicano e due particolari rapaci. Le risate sono tante perché il fattore coinvolge il pubblico e ironizza sulle fobie delle persone nei confronti di innocui animali!
Then we head quickly towards the “Farm”, a group of houses and adjoining stable which faces an arena that is packed with people. The show begins with the song of a rooster and a nice factor begins to tell merrily the typical day of the farm letting know of many animals, the more unusual ones too like the hedgehog, the porcupine, the ferret, the pelican and two particular raptors. The laughs are many because the factor involves the audience and jokes about phobias of individuals harmless animals!

Passa così la prima ora nel parco. Dalla fattoria inizia un percorso che si addentra nel verde e verso altre costruzioni. È una sorta di ricostruzione del Delta del Po in miniatura dove laghetti e corsi d’acqua ospitano oche, anatre, tartarughe, pesci e rettili e talvolta anche specie di uccelli migratori, tipiche degli ambienti umidi dell’Emilia-Romagna. È facile poter osservare tutti questi abitanti nascosti in punti di osservazione tra le canne palustri o in gabbiotti di legno sopraelevati.
So the first hour in the park is passed. From the farm a journey that goes in the green and into other buildings begins. It’s sort of reconstruction of the Po Delta in miniature where lakes and rivers are home to geese, ducks, turtles, fish and reptiles and sometimes even species of migratory birds, typical of humid environments in Emilia-Romagna. It is easy to observe all these people hidden in viewpoints between the marsh reeds or from high wooden cabins.

Passando tra queste costruzioni e aree picnic si arriva in un attimo al “Mulino del Gufo”, davanti al quale grande spiazzo erboso si esibiscono i rapaci in volo! Uno spettacolo meraviglioso agli occhi di chi, come noi, apprezza la falconeria come momento di scoperta: sono animali misteriosi che altrimenti sarebbero quasi irraggiungibili ai nostri occhi! I falconieri sono maestri nell’ispirare il volo di questi uccelli dalle aperture alari incredibili, dalle velocità stratosferiche e dalla precisione soprannaturale! Ci sono falchi, poiane, gufi, aquile e addirittura avvoltoi e si possono vedere anche a distanza molto ravvicinata! Ogni volta che ammiro la maestosità di questi animali penso a come noi umani dovremmo sentirci più umili e piccoli al loro cospetto mentre spesso facciamo il contrario!
Moving between these buildings and picnic areas we arrive in a moment to “Moulin of the Owl”, in front of which in a large grassy square raptors will perform in flight! A marvellous show to the eyes of those who, like us, appreciate the falconry as a moment of discovery: they are mysterious animals that would otherwise be almost inaccessible to our eyes! The falconers are teachers that inspire the flight of these birds with incredible wing openings, stratospheric speed and supernatural precision! There are hawks, buzzards, owls, eagles and even vultures and you can see them even a very close distance! Every time I admire the majesty of these animals, I think of us, as human, we should feel humble and small in their presence and often we do the opposite!

Dopo lo spettacolo dei rapaci e un divertente zigzagare tra i laghetti arriva la parte forse più bella del nostro ‘viaggio’… lo spettacolo dei delfini!
After the spectacle of raptors and a fun zigzag between lakes it comes perhaps the most beautiful part of our ‘journey’ the show of... dolphins!

Ci sistemiamo tra le file medie della grande arena, dove il nostro amico ci consiglia di stare (capiremo dopo il perché), e aspettiamo l’inizio. Iniziano a far capolino i delfini in mezzo all’acqua, dal momento che hanno notato l’aumento della presenza umana sulle gradinate. Sembrano euforici e non appena si avvicinano gli addestratori per poggiare i secchielli con il loro pasto, vicino ai bordi della vasca, cominciano a fare salti. Quando la musica comincia e il presentatore dà apertura alla performance, già restiamo a bocca aperta nel vedere il tempismo, i grandi salti, con cui tutti insieme escono dalla vasca e si rituffano!
Non riesco a descrivere quanto siano belli i successivi quaranta minuti… non è tanto per le coreografie incredibili che queste creature fanno – grazie anche alla bravura degli addestratori – ma è incredibile l’intelligenza che esse dimostrano, la tale capacità di comprendere e di divertirsi che quasi sembrano esseri umani!!!
Non nego che mi sono commossa e di certo non erano gli spruzzi d’acqua che arrivavano fino a noi, quelli che bagnavano i miei occhi! Non avrei mai creduto di entusiasmarmi tanto di fronte allo spettacolo di animali addestrati. E adesso so che questi animali non sono lì solo per far divertire le persone: sono animali spesso recuperati da situazioni in natura per loro pericolose e compromettenti la loro stessa vita. Perciò sono amati, coccolati, curati e nutriti con una tale cura (e anche con enormi costi) che noi non immaginiamo! Così come Mary G. il cucciolo di grampo – una particolare specie di delfino – recuperato nel 2005 nel porto di Ancona, che adesso è con gli altri delfini e sembra essere ormai uno di loro. Anche loro, sappiamo dal nostro amico, vivono gli stessi nostri sentimenti, amore, amicizia, simpatie ed antipatie! Ogni visitatore vorrebbe toccarli, abbracciarli… ma non sono giocattoli e la natura ci dice che è meglio che siano loro ad esprimere l’affetto nei nostri confronti, con il loro modo di comportarsi!
We place among the medium ranks of the large arena, where our friend advised us to stay (then we’ll understand why), and wait the beginning. Dolphins begin to head from the middle of water because they have noticed increased human presence on tiers. They seem euphoric, and just approaching the handlers for the rest buckets with their meal, close to edges of the pan, they begin to make jumps. When the music starts and the presenter gave performance the opening, we remain in open mouth to see the timing, the big jumps, with which all together leave the tub and return in!
I can not describe how beautiful the next forty minute were... is not so much for the choreography that these incredible creatures do – thanks to the skill of trainers – but it is incredible the understanding that they demonstrate and this capacity to understand and of fun almost make them seem human beings!
I do not deny that certainly there were not splashing water, came up to us, to wet my eyes, but little tears! I would not have ever believed so much enthusiasm in front of the spectacle of trained animals. And now I know that these animals are not only there to fun people but they are often retrieved from situations dangerous in their environment and compromising their very lives. So they are loved, cuddled, fed and cared for with such care (and also with enormous costs) that we do not imagine! Like Mary G. the puppy of ‘grampus griseus’ – a particular species of dolphin – recovered in 2005 from the port of Ancona, who is now with the other dolphins and seems to be now one of them. They, too, we know by our friend, live our own feelings, love, friendship, sympathy and hate! Every visitor would touch, embrace them ... but they are not toys and nature tells us that it is better that they are able by themselves to express their affection for us, by the way they behave!

Al termine dello spettacolo non abbiamo tempo per riprenderci dall’emozione, poiché c’è l’ultimo spettacolo nel cinema 3d. Si tratta di un documentario di mezz’ora sui fondali dei mari dove regnano le foreste del kelp. Anche questo brivido per me è stato nuovo, veramente un modo efficace di sentirti parte di habitat che altrimenti sarebbe impossibile visitare!
At the end of the show we do not have time to recover us by emotion, because there is the last show in 3d cinema. This is a half-hour documentary about the bottom of the seas where forests of kelp reign. Even this thrill for me was new, really an effective way to feel part of a habitat that otherwise would be impossible to visit!

Al termine della proiezione sono già le 18 e il parco chiude! Accidenti! Ci siamo persi un altro bel po’ di cose! Ma di sicuro torneremo!
Insomma, tra tanti parchi tematici e di divertimento vale proprio la pena fare un salto a questa oasi “oltre il mare”. Ora il nostro pensiero va spesso ai delfini, ai rapaci, ai cavallucci marini e ai tantissimi animali che abbiamo osservato, nonché al nostro caro amico che ci ha spinto ad avvicinarci a questo mondo! Un grazie di cuore e un saluto ai nostri nuovi amici!
At the end of the projection is already 18 and the park closes! Damn! We lost a lot of things! But surely we’ll come back!
In short, among many theme parks and entertainment, it’s precisely worth to make a quick trip to this oasis “beyond the sea”. Now our thoughts turn often to dolphins, raptors, seahorses and many animals that we observed, and to our dear friend that pushed us to approach this world! A heartfelt thanks and a greeting to our new friends!
