Upcycling on my mind!!!

Viste le conclusioni tratte nelle righe finali del mio ultimo post disperato, ho deciso di rimboccarmi le maniche e fare qualcosa di utile: una rubrica che ci tenga compagnia durante lo svolgersi di questo agosto...
Due to the conclusions drawn in the final lines of my last desperate post, I decided to roll up my sleeves and do something useful: a series of articles that will keep us company during the course of this month ...

So che molti di voi sono al mare o in montagna, ma anche no! Magari siete lì a difendere coi denti il vostro posto di lavoro, oppure a preparare esami, programmi per la stagione che verrà. Può anche darsi che siate a casa forzatamente per risparmiare qualche soldino, e allora questa serie di post, sono sicura, farà al caso vostro. Insomma, ogni scusa è buona per prendersi una pausa e dar vita alle idee che frullano in testa e vi assicuro che nella mia testa ce ne sono così tante da aver bisogno di fare un po' d'ordine!
I know that many of you are at the beach or on the mountains, but not everybody! Maybe you are there to defend with your teeth your job, or to prepare for exams or programs for the coming season. It may be that you are at home forcibly to save some money, and then this series of posts – I'm sure – will suite to you. In short, any excuse is good to take a break and give life to ideas blending in your head and I assure you that in my head there are so many ideas that I need to put them in order!

Qundi, che ne dite di un po' di... upcycling?
Then we go, how about ... upcycling?

Cos'è l'upcycling ormai lo sapete tutti, è come il recycling, ma un po' più avanzato: si tratta di salvare dalla pattumiera tanti materiali ma non per riciclarli nella raccolta differenziata, piuttosto per creare qualcosa di nuovo e utile o semplicemente bello.
What is upcycling now you all know, it's like recycling, but a little 'more advanced: it is about saving many materials from trash but not in order to recycle them. You can create something new and useful or just nice from that stuff.

Non è che abbia inventato nulla di nuovo, basta vedere come pagine social o blog specializzate sull'argomento si siano moltiplicate nel giro di un annetto a vista d'occhio.
Not that I invented something new, you can just see how social pages or blogs specialized on the subject have been multiplied within a year.

Anche se da ciò che scrivo non sembra, io sono una veterana dell'upcycling, l'ho sempre fatto sin da piccola, quando trasformavo i giornali in maschere di cartapesta, i tubi in cartone in burattini o porta oggetti, i vassoi di alluminio in decorazioni e così via. Poi la mia creatività riciclona ha avuto un "upgrade" nel momento in cui all'università ho iniziato a frequentare il corso in disegno industriale, dove spesso mi sono cimentata nel realizzare progetti, modellini e prototipi con materiali di recupero. E se avrò del tempo vi farò vedere anche quelli!
Although from what I wrote it does not seem, I am a veteran about upcycling. I've always done since childhood, when I used newspapers to make papier-mâché masks, or trasformed the cardboard tubes into puppets or thing-holders, aluminum trays in decorations and so on. Then my recycling creativity had an "upgrade" as I started college to attend the industrial design class, where often I ventured to carry out projects, models and prototypes with recycled materials. And when I'll have time I'll show them too.


Ora qui sul blog ci sono ancora pochi esempi di ciò che ho realizzato e farò in modo da radunarli assieme ai nuovi che vi presenterò. Non aspettatevi, però, dei tutorial, non ho tempo per realizzarli ma farò in modo da rispondere alle vostre domande o curiosità.
Now here on the blog there are still few examples of what I have achieved and I will gather them together so that I will introduce the new ones. Do not expect, however, tutorials, I do not have time to carry them but I will surely answer to your questions or curiosities.


Vi spiegherò in breve la storia dell'oggetto, più che altro per farvi comprendere come da cose semplici possano nascere delle idee sorprendenti, come diceva il mitico Bruno Munari "Da cosa nasce cosa"...
I will explain a brief history of the object, to make you understand how from simple things you can create amazing ideas, as the legendary Bruno Munari said "Da cosa nasce cosa"("one thing leads to another one") ...

“Non sei mica tu che devi salvare il mondo!”/“It’s not you who must save the world!"

Questa, da lei, non me la aspettavo proprio, da una persona che mi conosce bene, praticamente dalla nascita, che sa quanto tengo all’ambiente, che sa che per ogni mia azione, per ogni mio acquisto, sono attenta a non creare rifiuti, a risparmiare, a non favorire economie dannose per gli uomini e per la natura.
E così mi sono ritrovata, come al solito, nella stessa mia casa, in una montagna di sacchetti di plastica, con il frigorifero pieno di alimenti preconfezionati, con l’acqua in bottiglia, con la frutta che viene da chissà dove e con oggetti prodotti il più lontano possibile.

Ma è così difficile far capire alle persone a noi più care, quanto è importante rispettare l’ambiente? Così difficile far capire che quel vuoto attorno a noi lo stiamo riempiendo di falsi valori, di cose inutili e dannose.

Faccio questa riflessione a distanza di giorni, l’ospite è partita, ma la frase mi rimbomba ancora nella testa. Sto vivendo un periodo difficile della mia vita, con affetti che vengono ogni giorno sempre più a mancare, e ogni frase ha il suo peso, ogni gesto lascia la sua impronta e tutto diventa più difficile.

Ma io non ho alcuna pretesa di “salvare il mondo”! Che sia ben chiaro!
Non ho mai voluto essere un supereroe. Faccio la mia piccola parte, nella speranza che il mio piccolo esempio possa essere d’aiuto a molti altri.

Così questa piccola introspezione forse a qualcosa mi è servita, a svegliare il mio torpore quotidiano e in queste ore afose ricomincerò a fare la mia piccola parte.

These words, I did not expect from her, a person who knows me well, practically from birth, who knows how much I care for environment, who knows that in every single action or single purchase I’m careful not to create waste, to save money, not to encourage economies harmful for humans and nature.
So I found me, as usual, at home, in a mountain of plastic bags, with the refrigerator full of pre-packaged food, bottled water, fruit that comes from who knows where, and with objects produced as far as possible.

So, is it so hard to make the dearest people understand how important is environment?
So uneasy to make them understand that we are filling the empty world around us with false values and harmful and useless things?

I thought about it since she has left home, her words are always on my mind. Now that I’m going through a difficult period of my life, where I see the dearest affections come increasingly to disappear, every word has its weight and every gesture leaves a mark and everything is less easy to me.

But I haven’t any claim to "save the world”! I want it be clear!
Never wanted to be a superhero. I just want to do my small part in the hope that my little example can help many other people.
How sad to be misunderstood by my own mother!

So this little introspection perhaps woke me up from my daily torpor and during these muggy hours I will begin again to do my small part.
