Finally, it’s the right time to dedicate to my hobbies! As you know, among many, the one that keeps my mind on is always “upcycling”, a kind of advanced recycling, where all the scraps are recovered and creatively reworked.
It could happen to have at hand something to throw away, because not recyclable. If it has special colours, shapes, thicknesses or materials, then I immediately think to a new use for it, in a new form. If the idea does not immediately jump out of the hat, or I have not enough time to realize it, I reserve to these materials a small corner in my closet, waiting for creative recycling.

Cosa farne?
For many years I kept my working agendas, until I decided to eliminate them: it was now a no longer useful archive. I tried to recycle all the paper as possible, including the cardboard covers. But, because of the complexity of the materials, I couldn’t recycle a few covers, so I store them away. Among them a nice soft red cover dated 2009, consisting of cardboard, a plastic-coated paper, padded with polyurethane that is normally welded to the other parts, so that they are not separable. What to do?

I have long wanted a new cover for my tablet, one more in tune with summer than the one I bought a long ago at Matrioska... and I wanted to realize it with recycled materials. The red cover was proved suitable for the purpose because of the same size of my 7” tablet. Moreover, an old white and red flowered stretch cotton t-shirt came soon back useful. I kept it stored because it was as a gift from my mom and now unused because damaged in some parts. In addition, the red elastic tissues that adorned the edges of the t-shirts were perfect for the job that I’m going here to explain with a photo tutorial.

Ecco l’occorrente / Here’s what you need:
  • copertina cartonata imbottita di un’agenda da riciclare / padded cardboard cover agenda to recycle;
  • T-shirt da riciclare in tessuto elasticizzato / stretch fabric T-shirts to recycle;
  • elastici da riciclo / elastic tissues to recycle;
  • cartoncino un po’ spesso sempre recuperato / recovered thick board;
  • colla vinilica e un pennello per stenderla / glue and a brush to spread it;
  • nastro adesivo, cucitrice, ago e filo / adhesive tape, stapler, needle and thread;
  • eventuale nastro biadesivo forte (tipo quello per moquette) / any strong double-sided tape (like the one for carpets);
  • 2 nastri e 2 bottoni di dimensioni diverse / 2 ribbons and 2 buttons of different sizes.

I started by coating the outside of the front cover with the fabric of the shirt, cut to size larger than one centimeter along all the edges of the cover and bonded well, spreading it to avoid wrinkles.

2) Ho ripiegato e incollato internamente il tessuto avanzato sui bordi. Ho lasciato asciugare.
I folded and glued inside the advanced fabric edges. I let it dry.

I cut the cardboard slightly smaller size of the cover closed, enough to cover the edges of the fabric folded previously. I cut the t-shirt’s red elastics, placing them in the four corners of the board and secure with removable tape. Then I folded on the other side of the board and I stapled them well to end (they do not have to be slow). I doubled, then the elastic bands on the four corners, in the same way.

I coated the board always by glueing on the fabric, both to create a bit of thickness and to finish better the inside of the cover. Also for this I folded the flaps under the board. Same work, covered by fabric but without elastics, should be done on the opposite side, with another board a bit wider, able to cover the other inner side of the cover and the inside of the back.
For this side, on the cloth piece I had previously hand-sewed pocket that is useful to me to contain an antistatic cleaning screen cloth (as option!).

After the two coated boards had dried, I glued them inside the inner, making sure that the longer one had a strip of fabric that had to be covered with the other board.
You should pay attention to this action. In fact, the board inside with the rubber bands, which will hold the tablet, must be pasted perfectly. As reinforcement a double-sided tape for carpet can be used, combined with glue.

After waiting for everything dried, I sewed in the middle of the back cover a big ribbon. At one end of it I created with the same type of elastics a buttonhole, while on the other I attacked the big button. Then, on the back cover, on this ribbon I sewed another one which was narrower but longer, equipping the ends of it a buttonhole and button, as in the first.
The length of these two tapes, should ensure a perfect closing of the cover horizontally and vertically, so that if the tablet accidentally come out from the elastic bands, however it will not come out from its protective cover.

I tested the cover during this first week and are very satisfied, because, despite the heat of these days, the tightness of the glue is perfect. Maybe in the future I will have to replace the two ribbons with two elastic straps, because the ribbons I have chosen can loose tightness in long terms.
However, isn’t a good idea? I got a nice cover at no cost and with almost entirely recycled materials!!! ;)

It’s time for Dandaworld’s news!

(“Dreams” by the Cranberries)
I know there you are! Weather is bad for those who are on holiday, but what about relaxing, reading and browsing through the blogs? On holiday there is more time to dedicate reading, isn’t it?
So now is the time to update news.
During this month plenty of things have happened, but I'll try not to bore you. To sum up my mood, at this time the most apt phrase from a famous song – which I love – is: "Oh my life, is changing every day, in every possible way"! ("
Dreams" by the Cranberries)

Let's start from the best news: this blog has brought me many new friends, it definitely gave me the opportunity to share point of views, interests, thoughts, joys and concerns with the world but I never imagined that it would give me a new job opportunity! Yes, I just started to work with a company that makes environmental sustainability its mission and I am the happiest woman in the world!
Now I’m just starting, but it is needless to say that I feel really at ease! I met some nice people and I hope that everything will have increasingly interesting and engaging developments. By the way I am eternally grateful to my friend Nicoletta who has played a key role in connecting me with these people.
I'll tell you something more soon, but in the meantime think about me intensely, please! ;)

This period has been characterized by the arrangement and optimization of domestic spaces, after the intense works of last month. Therefore, we had to do decluttering, as already announced, bringing many of the things accumulated over the years to the second-hand shops. Really even these places in this period are fullest of stuff and people hardly buy. So I adopted a B plan. I signed up to a site where you can barter your own thing with those ones of other people. It is Soloscambio.it. For the moment I have a couple of exchanges completed and some others in progress. The nice thing is that I have new friends via e-mail, some very nice people. And the first package I received, with a nice Scottish comic cookbook inside – for my chef! – was delivered at home with a package made from a cereal box (pictured). And I can not be happy, this place is just for me!
If you want to find me on the site of Soloscambio, I am, of course, Dandina.

Il primo arrivo dallo scambio su soloscambio.it!

Restate sintonizzati!
Meanwhile, activities in ReDiVita space – despite the summer and the whims of the time – continued to increase. Last event I attended: a fun workshop for children, in the late-afternoon organized by MakeRN and edited by Mani Tese Rimini, to create by hand fantastic lighted creatures... with conductive do-it-yourself dough and LEDs! It was curious to see how the children learned quickly how to use the polarity and the conductive properties of this dough created with natural materials. Today's kids are incredibly smarter than us at the same age!
In the wake of this workshop, in September we will try a new experiment: a bright lighthouse, built with recycled materials. Stay tuned!

Other nice things about this period: a great big concert during our Pink Night with the talented Elisa Toffoli – that if you do not know, it is also one that cares a lot about the environment, but I’ll tell you soon –; another 'rescue' in the garden, a blackbird chick that lost her mother after a day of storms – shame not to have photos to show you their tenderness –; green purchases; my e-bike which comes to life thanks to the movements to do for work.

And yes, unfortunately, there are also some things that are not really good, but always put it in music, this time with the words of Elisa, “Un segreto è fare tutto come se vedessi solo il sole” (tr. “A secret is to do everything just like seeing the sun” from “Qualcosa che non c’è”)! ;)

È nata la… “Casetta sul Terrazzo”!!! / It was born the... “Cottage on the Patio”!

I usually like to talk to you about what's happening in my garden, which is the location of my daily observation of nature, although in reality it is just a microcosm.
Instead, soon I'll talk about what is happening in another outdoor space, this time not a garden but a patio, yes, a patio above a particular building and above the patio there is... a cottage!!!

The “Cottage on the Patio” is a space for creative reuse workshops run by ManiTese Cooperative of which, you know, I am a volunteer since many years.
It was finally opened last Sunday, during a three days event dedicated to the inauguration of the ReDiVita Association’s Tree House area.

The thing I like most about this space is that it is located in a vacant building, semi-abandoned and later recovered, a former electronics store on three floors, in 32 via della Circonvallazione Occidentale in Rimini. Who attended for years the charity shop of Mani Tese Rimini, well remembers these windows always closed...
It was in the air that this place had to go back to live from now on, becoming a stable reference point for creative people who have in their hearts the passion for reuse and environmental sustainability.

Last Sunday, after so much effort to renovate these a bit abandoned rooms, Mani Tese opened the doors of the portion of the building, the “Cottage”, in which many re-use workshops for both children and adults will take place during the next months.
In the morning on the patio, set up by the excellent Manolo Benvenuti – known throughout Europe as an innovative reuse-designer – there was entertainment for children by Le Pu-Pazze Society, a funny theater with puppets made by wasted fabrics and materials.
In the afternoon we set up a small workshop for children dedicated to creating pinwheels, always with reuse material (in this case paper from Easter eggs, corks, sticks, cardboard).

Veniteci a trovare!!!
From June the program will start with almost a seaside theme workshop that will alternate on the patio (or cottage, depending on the weather), while in September, the same Cottage will host a Permanent Workshop of recycled materials.
I will be there on at least two occasions and will manage the laboratories of the children, along with other Mani Tese volunteers. The Cottage on the Patio will be a nice relaxing place to take a little break from the first summer sun and to have fun with creativity! Come and visit us!

Bellissime (e speriamo buonissime) more in arrivo nel mio giardino...
Buona estate!!!

Beautiful (and hopefully delicious) blackberries coming up in my garden...
Have a nice summer

“Where’s Danda?” (parte prima / part one)

Where's Danda?
I guess you’ll ask yourselves several times throughout the summer. Well I was usually here, behind this monitor, except for five wonderful days spent precisely in what this summer was “the navel of the world” ... precise, London

@ London!!!
I would have liked to be there for the Olympics, but to avoid the exorbitant prices, I and my companion took advantage of a good offer by one of our dear friend, who’s a tour operator. Then we flew during the first days of July, breathing the same so very special air of the preparations for the games, mixed with the charm –hitherto unknown to me– of that strange and eventful northern European city.

Yes, I had never been in London and, when I admit it, all they responded with a surprised face “no, you absolutely must go!”
“Ok, when I can,” I replied, but like all things you want to do so, and you never know where to start or what resources to bring out, this desire remained closed into the drawer. Until one day I received a suspicious phone call ... that’s my friend asking me details on how to organize the trip ... and I “what a journey?” And so Paolo (aka Irish, for those who already read about him in this blog), was forced to reveal to me the wonderful surprise that was his gift for our sixteenth anniversary!

From there I began to fantasize, stopping, however, to pull out of the hat of my computer a particular map of London, the ‘Green London’, which I had saved during one of my wanderings on the web. But the goal has always intrigued me a lot ...
Unfortunately I was taken from the confusion of my work situation (or rather non-working), suspended between sending resumes, job search, unnecessary bureaucracy, and things like that, all that kept me away from the blog until now.

Paolo, fortunately been in the much coveted-for-me London, began at once to get caught by the organization. Pull out all the museum guides already in his possession, the number of clippings from travel magazines, a guide with a map (a bit more detailed than mine) and some other guides remedied at the charity-shop or annexed to the newspapers, he studied every night and weekends available. Every time I threw one eye, while he took notes.

But when we had only two weeks until departure, we forced ourselves to remain in the evening after dinner to the table studying in detail our movements. We got a notebook –recycled paper, received for free at the cooking class attended at ‘Do The Right Thing’ 2011–, a little small post-it notes, a pen and started marking on the map, classified by colour, first of all museums, monuments and milestones that are marked mandatory in all the guidebooks, those ones that everybody already supposed to know, thanks to photos in the English school books. Then the places of entertainment: famous pubs, restaurants for our pockets and our needs, embarking points for tours by boat, markets, music shops, parks and other places of entertainment. It seemed an eternity we were staying, for how many points we marked! But it was all strictly determined by taking schedules and travel times, apparently.

Grazie ancora Maria!
I do not forget to say that first of all I had glanced at Carmine's blog, “Turismo Lento” and had requested guidance from the gentle Maria, blogger of “The Indie Handmade Show”, who lives in London, lucky her, and suggested to visit some parks, neighbourhoods and markets as well as what she calls the ‘must see’. I was able to view only a part of them, but I’m really glad I had all these suggestions, which is not easy to find guides on the classic. Thanks so much again Maria!

In short, prepared the map, our travel diary and of course our luggage with all the documentation, we found ourselves in less than no time to fly the English Channel, from a boiling Italy, landing under a layer of gray clouds that hid the bright green of the countryside around Gatwick.
And what could we expect? Besides, everyone says that it always rains in London! But we were happy to be left behind the nearly 40 ° C of Italy!

This story is long enough.
Let me be clear, I have just the slightest intention to bore you with yet another tale of travel, such as those you can read on newsstand magazines or you can see in some television programs.
But I really have many fancy things to say, things that you’ll not read elsewhere, and that perhaps only Danda, with her ‘green’ point of view can see.
And then in London, I finally met someone very special ... you don’t want to disclose it now!
I know that slowly you’ll come back to read this blog! I’ll await you! ;)

Tomorrow I'll go back to work... yep, already...
But summer is not over yet! At least for what seems with the tropical climate!
And for this, I wanted to give you my suggestion for something very useful during so hot days (and nights)!

Even if my love for nature and all living beings is immense, unfortunately I have a certain hatred for an animal species too disturbing for me... the mosquito!

One of my old coworker – a talented illustrator and blogger who shares my passion for nature – called me "killer" whenever I clapped in office and showed her the unfortunate victim of my hunt! :)
And even now sometimes I feel guilty when I kill a mosquito, however, don't blame me, I cannot really stand it!

However, to avoid further carnages of mosquitos, I properly equipped at home, changing fixtures and putting nets, which currently I think are the best remedy anti-mosquito. And then, when I'm away, I bring my ultimate with me: a small experiment in self-production without any claims, a homemade mosquito repellent lotion, using few ingredients easy to find.

20 ml di alcol per usi alimentari / 20 ml of potable alcohol
80 ml di acqua distillata / 80 ml of distilled water
15 gocce di olio essenziale puro di citronella / 15 drops of pure essential oil of citronella
10 gocce di olio essenziale puro di geranio / 10 drops of pure essential oil of geranium
10 gocce di olio essenziale puro di tea tree / 10 drops of pure tea tree essential oil
5 gocce di olio essenziale di melissa / 5 drops of essential oil of lemon balm

Actually I was inspired here and there in the network, from the many recipes already published, mixing  and adapting them to my taste. I'm not an expert herbalist, so it's just an attempt to be taken with due "pinches" ... but it works!
Of course, being based on alcohol and pure essential oils it should be used with caution complying with the contraindications of each essential oil. The effectiveness of this natural repellent lasts for a couple of hours, less if the weather is quite windy.
I actually would find a way to replace the alcohol that evaporates very quickly, something that remains more fixed on the skin. So the experiment cannot be said concluded yet.
But meanwhile it is enough for me to eliminate all those synthetic-based repellents that certainly don't help us stay healthy!

I leave you some other images of the bottle when I poured the lotion, mostly because the design is by Irish, who can do a lot with brushes, as well as with stove! In facts, the yellow bottle is that one of an old lotion bought at the chemist. As usual, nothing is thrown, everything is recycled! ;)

So have fun for the last days of this hot August! Keep an eye on mosquitoes! ;)

Chiusi per ferie? Macché! / Closed for holidays? Not at all!

Blog chiuso per ferie?
Macché! Magari!!!
Blog closed for holidays?
Not at all! Maybe!
Every day work engulfs me and destroys every ounce of strength to take some extra initiatives.
I survive, with the messed up bus schedules to go and come, with things to do that accumulate, with the heat, with the weariness of months that begins to be heard.
But there is something positive and good and I'll tell it to you as soon as I a "piece" will arrive at home completing a great work!
But I cannot anticipate anything, sorry!

Back at home, I'm grappling with a busy summer!

For some friends and relatives come to stay for a few days with us.
My first guests were very special friends who gave us a great company, then it was the turn of my family, especially my mom and sister.
When a guest walks away from home, whoever he is, always leaves a great emptiness inside me! It always happens with the members of my family I see very few times. Among hugs and kisses there are also some moments of discussion that then pass into the background compared to the joy of being together.

However, what isn't left empty, since my family was leaving, is the bin of rubbish...
It is not easy to maintain and communicate your eco-sustainable habits to guests!
And while the first (friends) behaved very well, the latter weren't so virtuous...
I must admit that my mom – of which I spoke well in a previous post – has a little-big problem: she buy so much and without thinking.
So these days I have had serious management problems of excess food and unwished food packaging who ended up in my not-recyclable garbage.
I'll tell you some details soon...
My little sister instead tried to be more careful and I was constantly bombarded with questions about where to throw this or that, making me realize that, indeed for some people, it is not easy to recognize certain materials to recycle well. It is even more difficult to keep in mind, before buying a thing, that a good part of what we are buying could be waste!
So my next goal is to work more and more in this direction: to inform as many people as possible, to make understand the simplicity of each gesture done not only for environment, but also for themselves...

Meanwhile, outside of my house ideas to write on the blog never missed.
Too bad that, instead, the weather was a tyrant and I had not the opportunity to jot down a thought in my little green notebook...
Around the summer literally exploded and from a "pink night" in Rimini, pleasantly and surprisingly crowded with bicycles, we arrived in second half of a hot July. Air conditioners shooting cold air anywhere even where no needed, people are taking pains to reach the sea driving hours and hours for hundreds of miles in cars with more and more facilities, more and more
large, more and more... unfortunately, too many! While some opt for more ecological resources, increasingly putting their own life at risk, because of the cars above...

In short ideas for thoughts that are often lost in the maze of my mind and cannot get on the blog... at least for now.
But do not worry, I'm keeping everything aside and I'll make you join in whenever I can!
For those who are still there, let me know how your summer started and for those are leaving, have a good summer!

Eco-ingegnosi, questi romagnoli! / Green-ingenious people in Romagna! – blogpost #2

This is another post of the series Summer "mini-blogpost" – here the #0 and here the #1.
Ok, Summer is ending, you are saying, staring at the cloudy sky and the stormy sea. But don't say the last word! Summer can continue in your heart, letting creativity free, as people in Romagna do in many occasions.

Guardate questa foto / Look at this photo:

So, did you see what they are able to do? Two ingegnous tables for cafè, made with road signs – hoping that they were taken away from landfill and not from road – !
Well, they are very funny. If you want to give them a closer look, go to visit this very little but fantastic village of Romagna, Monteleone of Roncofreddo.
This centre is awarded with the "Orange Flag" like others in Romagna, and it deserves, because with the exception of the urban settelment and the castle, there is the presence of little shops with local products and beautiful handcrafted objects, like the "Antiche cose & nuove" shop, where I lost myself!

Then I suggest a walk just next Sunday, or Monday, when the Feast of figs and swap market will take place, as the bill says. I strongly hope to be there. I'm not the one who likes figs, or not? :) And, then, how to miss the very green swap practise?

Just a recommendation: beware of the roads to Monteleone! They are very narrow and winding and our "Celestina" almost left its wheels behind!
Perhaps it was for this reason that people took away some road signs there? :D

Vacanze a Km (quasi) 0… / About zero distance-holidays… # 3

(continua da qui / second part here)

Third day of holiday in the valley of Bagno di Romagna: well, where did I leave you? Oh, yes, we were talking about the green and the Irish beer… eh eh, I must admit that this place is as magic as the Emerald Isle… yes, the presence of legends about… gnomes, confirms it!!!

Consulting the materials taken to the tourist information office – that is near to the Centre of the Park of Casentino Forests, Mount Falterona and Campigna – we focused on a beautiful illustrated booklet, that tells on the history of Bagno and on a legend making this place famous.
They say that here in Bagno di Romagna, in recent times, there are some people – young and old – that saw gnomes near the ancient source of Armina, known since the Romans. It seems that in this place there was a hot water source and Romans used to take benefits from it, making a sort of spa, on the way that linked Rome to Ravenna.

Guardate qua…
In facts, around the hotspring a path starts, crossing the Armina Park. Here, recently the inhabitants of Bagno, thanks to their skills and creativity, wanted to re-built a journey-report about the world of gnomes. You can walk in the woods where there are illustrated posters, wooden little buildings and animals, funny stone and papier-mâché sculptures. Two easy kilometres of fun and fantasy, ideal for walking with your own children. We leave you discover them by yourselves.
Well, you know that Irish and me haven’t sons, but we keep intact our playful and imaginative spirit! So the “Gnome’s Trail” was a must for us!
I must admit that, despite our age, we enjoyed it so much… do you want to see? Look below…

In short, if you go to Bagno di Romagna, don’t miss to say hello to gnomes! We did it, staring at the green, trying to catch some movements or a red cap… the gnome Mentino could have been appeared in any moment! ;)
But none… maybe we are too old. Or it was enough to have the fleeting meeting the day before – I missed to mention it: yes, on the way back, in the last meters of downhill, we heard a kind of bellowing and a shadow behind the trees ran away… what a pity to not recognize what it really was!

With the magic in the head we came back to the centre of the town, this time crowded of tourists, perhaps here for the almost bad weather. After giving a look to the curious local shops, at the famous “gnome shop”, we went to buy something to eat… the idea was to go to the public park – fitted for picnic – to enjoy the intense green again.
But… things didn’t go as we want. Starting to eat the first piadine we heard some thunders behind the mountains and the rain began to fall. A gentle Tuscan old man – we met at a herbalist’s shop – stopped near us to chat, but as the rain continued to fall more dense and we weren’t so safe under a tree, we packed all and went away, after saying goodbye to the tourist.
We came back in our car, while out a flood was unleashed.

In a pure slow style, we preferred to drive on the local road instead of the E45 and slowly, in the carrier – now become more comfortable in that uproar – along curves still immersed in the green and the water, we remembered each moment of this short but intense and magic holiday…
Now that I recall… I read that the language of gnomes has a curious accent characterized by the drawn “c” – as the Tuscan –… perhaps that man was the gnome Mentino, disguised as a tourist… I could ask him how to “touch the moon”… it will be the next time! ;)

Vacanze a Km (quasi) 0… / About zero distance-holidays… # 2

(Continua da qui / First part here)

Scarponi indossati, borraccia e cartina, zaino in spalla e via!!! Direzione: monte Comero!
Second day: we were lucky because the incident of the night was soon solved and the morning before we were ready to have a day of… hikiiiing!!!
But before starting we had a good breakfast with a local cake and blackberries homemade jam… mmhh good! For lunch we asked to have two sandwiches to take away. What a sandwich! Two big slices of homemade bread with a tasty local cheese.
Boots, backpack, map and water bottle worn, let’s go!!! Ready to leave from the track that starts exactly from the Incisa Passage. Direction: Mount Comero!

Inutile dire quanto i nostri polmoni abbiano ripreso a respirare!
The first part is a bit tiring because uphill – about 200 mt of drop – especially for the lack of training before. But we soon go into the woods with deciduous trees. We started really to breathe!
A marvellous green that surrounds you at all, with musk, ferns, shrubs and highest green tops… the only brown track was the path to follow. Then again silence, only interrupted from the rustle of leaves, the twitter of birds and our breath. Other shy colours: the pink of the little wild carnations and cyclamen, the red of little berries, the iridescent of some beetles…

With the map always in hands, we walked with a strange apprehension feeling. As if we had the absurd fear to lose ourselves in that paradise. All that keeping constantly at view the red and white signals, at every fork.
Suddenly we entered in a wood of pines where two horses stayed and firstly we confused them with the ground surface. Then the voice of a stream, after which, following the path, we arrived in a wide glade. Here the blue clean sky contrasted with the green of the grass, where still were daisies and fabulous mushrooms.

“Are we in this point?” Maybe… walking and following a mule track, we lost the signals. After a downhill we found ourselves at a fork, where some gates stayed. Until now we hadn’t the chance to see a human around, but now, crossing the gate two figures came closer. They were two gentle women that told us the right direction and say that we would meet a source very soon, the Saint Francis source.

Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water”…  St. Francis well knew the value of Creation!
A good refreshed was what we needed now! The source was near a green little pond, surrounded from a vegetation frequented by dragonflies.
With backpacks finally at the ground we gave some bit to our own “waybread”, a sort of delicious gingerbread that Irish made with his hand and took with himself.

Going on to walk, the white track went uphill, even in the middle of the woods, that, unfortunately, in this point had its wounds: the wood cut is clearly a commercial activity. We hope that it is ruled here!
After many steps uphill, anxious to get to the mount, lunch time arrived, and… surprise! We were at a crossroad of four tracks and we understood that we were in the point where we had to be many hours before! Eh eh, sometimes mountains play a trick!
Ok, we said, “the way to the Comero is still too far”, perhaps we wouldn’t arrive in time and so we rested a bit more there, leaving then again for the track we lost before. It was the n. 149 and now it was well marked here.

“A noi?
Along the way we met a lot of mushroom hunters. The place here is well known as good to find mushrooms and truffles. Some people even stopped us and ask for information… “To us? But we are here only just for a walk!”
And there was who on the contrary came here… by car!!! Yes, even on the top of the mountain where the “Memorial of the Alpine” was, a couple was arrived on muletrack with an old runabout… I didn’t wanted to believe! And going downhill, along the muddy trail, we were driven almost by the wheels tracks, thinking “Surely we will arrive somewhere in the valley, following them!”. Then we took a narrower path, now, in the more dense woods. Following the signals we found again the glade where we passed before. From that point all went right, of course downhill!

It was a real pity that we came back too early!
So we planned soon to see two near lakes, Pontini Lake and Lungo Lake. This time we were so tired – after walked about 10 kilometres – to avoid to take the car.
The two lakes are very touristy – as the lake at Acquapartita too, we visited the day before –, but they are two little gems enclosed in the green of high pines. The areas are very cured, with services, picnic facilities, cafes, restaurants and lawn around the lakes, where you can lie and rest for hours in relax.
Unfortunately, as in many of the tourist lakes, the “weekender fishermen” – as Irish ironically calls them – didn’t miss. Here the only fishing practise allowed is the “No kill” one. But you can see victims the same… poor little freshwater fishes! There are some points where fishing is totally prohibited. Here you can see some trouts, swimming in the clear water.
Sometimes I think that it will be always too late when we will understand that some ecosystems are to be respected and protected… our devastating hand is evident in any case, even if there are prohibitions and controls.

In conclusion, seeing all that water we came very thirsty! So we thought to go back down in town.
We needed a good beer, mixed with a tonic drink, then we would find energy again. We waited until the opening of the Irish pub of the town. Very nice, one of the few remaining with the original furnishings. Here we munched something, and at the end we chatted with the funny pub managers, a girl with her mother, talking about our passion for the green of woods as the green of the “emerald isle”, our favourite one, Ireland, a place to which Bagno di Romagna has nothing to envy! ;)
