Di eco-weekend in eco-weekend! / From an eco-weekend to another one!

Dear inhabitants of Dandaworld, how did you spend the last festivities?
I thought a lot about you during the Easter weekend, but I was not able to update you on my travels... I was in Abruzzo, cruising through the beautiful Pacentro, Sulmona and Popoli.
As everywhere, wheather was not very good and among the very thick walls of the house where we were guests, there was a little (or none) web connectivity.
Yes, only when you are in such situations, you realize how we are now web addicted!

This weekend, just ended, was still more favorable, climatically speaking, and we took the opportunity to not miss an event, here in Rimini, which caught me since the name ... "A faz da par maker!", which is a nice fusion between the dialect in Romagna and English, to indicate the "do-it-yourself".
I
n fact, it was, an event related to self-production, with many manufacturers and craftsmen who exhibited their products made with their own hands, their knowledge and their creativity!

The exhibition was surrounded by talks, little conferences, workshops, all linked by the thread of sharing, critical consumption and sustainable lifestyle!
How many beautiful things: toys, jewelery, design objects made from recycled materials, alternative photography, 3D printing –
attended by the MakeRN lads with which we had made this workshop –, DIY cakes, sewing and cosmetics!
Finally, a healthy and good vegan dinner, offered in non-disposable tableware, projections and lots of music!

These are the mementos I brought home...
A chamomile macerated oil, for my reddened skin and a "little paper blog" with a cover that for me is almost a challenge, more than a promise! :)

Nell’immagine i dettagli. Allora, ci sarete? ;)
But do not rest on our laurels... next Saturday we will all still here, in Rimini, at the Casa sull'Albero, because Mani Tese and Pacha Mama, in collaboration with the Terra Equa, invite you to the fashion show "Not Only Vintage", for the Fashion Revolution Day. Of course I will be behind the backstage.
You can read
details in the image below. Then, will I find you there? ;)

È nata la… “Casetta sul Terrazzo”!!! / It was born the... “Cottage on the Patio”!

I usually like to talk to you about what's happening in my garden, which is the location of my daily observation of nature, although in reality it is just a microcosm.
Instead, soon I'll talk about what is happening in another outdoor space, this time not a garden but a patio, yes, a patio above a particular building and above the patio there is... a cottage!!!

The “Cottage on the Patio” is a space for creative reuse workshops run by ManiTese Cooperative of which, you know, I am a volunteer since many years.
It was finally opened last Sunday, during a three days event dedicated to the inauguration of the ReDiVita Association’s Tree House area.

The thing I like most about this space is that it is located in a vacant building, semi-abandoned and later recovered, a former electronics store on three floors, in 32 via della Circonvallazione Occidentale in Rimini. Who attended for years the charity shop of Mani Tese Rimini, well remembers these windows always closed...
It was in the air that this place had to go back to live from now on, becoming a stable reference point for creative people who have in their hearts the passion for reuse and environmental sustainability.

Last Sunday, after so much effort to renovate these a bit abandoned rooms, Mani Tese opened the doors of the portion of the building, the “Cottage”, in which many re-use workshops for both children and adults will take place during the next months.
In the morning on the patio, set up by the excellent Manolo Benvenuti – known throughout Europe as an innovative reuse-designer – there was entertainment for children by Le Pu-Pazze Society, a funny theater with puppets made by wasted fabrics and materials.
In the afternoon we set up a small workshop for children dedicated to creating pinwheels, always with reuse material (in this case paper from Easter eggs, corks, sticks, cardboard).

Veniteci a trovare!!!
From June the program will start with almost a seaside theme workshop that will alternate on the patio (or cottage, depending on the weather), while in September, the same Cottage will host a Permanent Workshop of recycled materials.
I will be there on at least two occasions and will manage the laboratories of the children, along with other Mani Tese volunteers. The Cottage on the Patio will be a nice relaxing place to take a little break from the first summer sun and to have fun with creativity! Come and visit us!

Rimini likes... Ciclofficina!!!

Evviva!
Hurray! Last Saturday here in Rimini the first 'Ciclofficina' (a bicycle factory) was inaugurated!

Contrary to what you might think the Ciclofficina is not a bike shop or a workshop in which to bring the bike to be repaired under a fee, but it is a real workshop where anyone can learn "the art of bicycle maintenance".

The initiative stems from the EnAIP S. Zavatta Foundation of Rimini, to involve young people in something really exciting, educational and useful for citizenship. This requirement is in perfect harmony with that of having a city increasingly open to sustainable mobility, and this is the reason that led the Municipality of Rimini to receive under his patronage this initiative, so as to be present at the inauguration, in the person of the environment councilor Sara Visintin, complete with a bike chain to be cut at the entrance...

In addition to the Municipality, the associations involved in the initiative were present at the inauguration, including the Youth Centre RM25 and Mani Tese Rimini – of which, you know, I am volunteer for years – that promotes environmentally conscious lifestyles with all its strength and ways and with a particular propensity for reuse.

In fact, here in the factory, you will not find beautiful trend design bikes but rusty bikes, with all the charm of their age, whose pieces will be reused to create new bicycles or simply replaced as spare parts. The youth of the centers involved, are already perfecting their training, along with more experienced people, to repair or develop the bikes that will be donated or brought by citizens to be repaired, with a free offer, and these ones will learn in turn. There will also be the possibility of home collection in addition to the opening days for the public (Tuesday afternoon and Saturday morning), so as to create a service for those who are not able to carry bikes up to the workshop.

I find amazing this initiative, in light of the fact that, being an open and non-profit reality, it can simply bring benefitsand innovation to the community of Rimini that really needs to implement its slow mobility, as Rimini is a beautiful city often choked by traffic. And this factory, as pointed out by Visintin, sits perfectly in the forum Rimini 2027 Venture Strategic Plan, which opened last July with the event "I like my bike".

In short, all on the saddle for a more environmentally friendly Rimini thanks also to Ciclofficina!!!

È partita!!! / Let’s start!

A period with new things starting, this! Today I'll tell you about the doorstep recycling starting in the sea area of the North of Rimini!
I anticipated it in this post and it had to be already active since last July.

In June the colored bins arrived, complete with communication – calendar days of collection, the waste dictionary and other warnings. A very colorful and attractive communication, but still missing translations into the languages most commonly spoken among the inhabitants of the area and among tourists, who sometimes rent the apartments instead of booking hotel.

However, to be able to say bye-bye to the road bins we had to wait until a few days ago. By now I had lost hope!
It is also true that with the presence of tourism the process of converting waste collection could only have a delay on the roadmap.
So it was, so much that in the meantime there was a lot of confusion on the days of collection, which were often not the same as described in the calendar.
But, after removal of road recycling bins – voilé – everything was back to normal.

Now, as provided, false problems, discussions, forgetfulness have arisen, starting already from my neighborhood ... but anyway, you have to slowly get used to it ... hopefully!
And now I find myself enlarge the calendar for the old aunt who lives upstairs ... from that with a little 'good will we can do it!

Bye Bye Bin (ciao ciao cassonetto)!!!

(For translation see the end of this post)

Speriamo presto!

After a month of silence here I am again here with a typical “Danda’s” story. And yes, there is no bin without a Danda, some would say, and there is no Danda that do not talk about waste!
To tell the truth I’m not having a good time, but this news has really restored my desire to post.
So, be patient, sit down and read this post until the end. Even if you do not feel like taking a direct interest.

Last night, at the headquarters of the District 5 of Viserba – for those who don’t know Viserba is a north quarter of Rimini –, a meeting was held between citizenship, Municipal Administration and Hera, who in the area, as throughout the province, manages the waste recycling. The theme of the new system of doorstep collection of urban waste in the tourist area of Rimini Nord.

In the past I may not have many good words for Hera, I admit. But this company – now a public limited company – of enormous proportions, which deals with waste – as well as water, electricity and gas – almost practically throughout the region, outside, and even in some foreign countries, is slowly making some new steps in the right direction. You could almost define a “new Hera”!

It’s been 4 years since I was posting to this blog about an identical meeting from which I came out disappointed. Since 2009, in fact, this sea area in the north of Rimini was subject to simple doorstep collection of not recyclable waste, while the recyclable are still collected into the street bins, which not always contribute to the urban decor. The street bin, you know, is a bit ’as a tempter that invites you to throw anything, often not making too much care of properly separating the different types of waste.
And I have a battery of street recycling bins – often immortalized in my blog – right in front of my house, I’ve seen all sorts of telling offs: polystyrene trays of dirty scraps of butcher, whole drying stands, building waste in the plastic bin, neon lights in the bins of glass, whole ironing boards in the bin of unrecyclable waste – which then are still left on the road, though belonging to the near condominium – and I could go on miles long…

It took a long time, but by the middle of next June, we finally have a doorstep collection that will be better organized and that especially includes the four fractions of plastic and metal, glass, paper plus unrecyclable waste. Each house will have four colored small bins (yellow for plastic and metal, green for glass, blue for paper and gray for the rest) to keep at home and expose for emptying according to a clear timetable!
For condominiums, bins will be a bit bigger and it will be placed in quantities proportional to the number of households.
The novelty is that big bins along with small bins will be showcased in a special area of the home or condo property, to which operators will have access after a release has been signed – and so I hope not to see this battery bins again in the middle of the street where everyone throws whatever he wants!

But there is still a small detail missing. It is precisely the reason why this meeting made me not so enthusiastic. Once again, collection of organic waste is missing! Ugh!
During the meeting, I did not dare open my mouth to ask why, and now I will explain the reason.

Initially this meeting was announced well. When I arrived, with a slight delay, the room was packed, there were at least a hundred people, if not more! A lot of people more than that meeting back in 2009 when the participants could be counted on your fingers and they were almost solely ecologists or worried hoteliers! Here there were proper citizens, and the average age was quite high. I said to myself: “Finally! People are starting to give importance to such a serious issue such as waste.”

But I had to change my opinion, when, after the exposure of the representatives of Hera and Councillor for the Environment, most citizens have raised their hands to express their concerns about this new collection system! Yes you read that right, “concerns”! The most disgruntled, disheartened, angry…
Someone worried because afraid of not having bins where to throw when going out (it is hard to get back the handkerchief in the pocket or the empty bottle in the bag!). Who nostalgically remember when as child he was leading to a guy that picked up the glass bottles in exchange for receiving a balloon. Who despair because, not knowing where to put the leaves of the garden, this time he will have to sweat to bring them to the recycling center or even make an effort to pick up the phone and dial the toll-free number to arrange pickup service (too comfortable was to leave the big bags next to street bins)…

In short, the biggest disappointment this time for me belonged by my fellow citizens on which a decidedly backward mentality prevails, where everything must be had, where a certain number of effort must be balanced by an amount of money and even where the problem is not to make less waste, but “Damn, and now where I can throw this?”

Now, do you understand why I have not pulled out the speech of the organic fraction?

Luckily there were few exceptions among the people who witnessed their experiences away from Rimini (in Trentino, Veneto, Friuli, Germany), where recycling is already advanced and it is now a way of life. A man in his sixties has even raised baffled, praying the audience to be grateful for having finally received the dorstep system and pointing on the fact that those same arguments many other cities had already argued twenty years ago! He had my spontaneous applause of course!

I appreciate, however, how the engineers of Hera have tried to cope with the questions, but also the contribution of Sara Visintin, the current Municipal Minister for Environment, who with clear, concise and effective words, tried to explain that recycling in good quality and quantity is our DUTY! That there are laws and aims to be achieved, set by the European community. That what next months we’re going to pay heavy taxes on waste, because not in all parts of Italy there are still effective recycling systems and therefore our effort must unfortunately go to cover the shortcomings of others, though not sharing.

I would add, turning to my fellow citizens:
“What shall we say to our children one day, when the landfills will be full by now, when toxic emissions from incinerators will compromise our body cells when all the environment will be devastated by what we were not able to put in cycle, as nature is always used to do?
Will you tell that we did not recycle, because we did not wash the bins or because we wanted a profit at all costs, or because we were lazy to bring our bins down in the backyard at the set time and day?
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work and, although with a bit of nostalgia, let’s greet our “dear” street recycling bins that have done for years our “happiness”!!!”

Ps: on the doorstep collection of organic waste finally I asked directly to the technicians of Hera at the end of the meeting. For now it seems a more bureaucratic problem (related to land management) more than technic issue, but they are moving to unlock even these obstacles. Hopefully soon!

L’elettricità è dietro l’angolo / Electricity is around the corner

Funny how no one yet in my area have noticed something new and unusual, especially in a time like this, the winter, when the sea area of Rimini is not busy, not crowded, with the horizon of the sea still gray and the beach with wet sand almost deserted.
When I realized it I was on the bus, towards the center: for several minutes my face had a stupid look but a huge smile was inside me.

Forse sta a noi renderle utili.
Here they are, two beautiful brand new recharging stations for electric vehicles!
So something is changing for real! I hope that they won’t end like the fresh milk distributors...
Perhaps it is for us to make them useful. So if in the future I’ll think about buying a new car, I have no more excuses, nor I, nor you, my dear inhabitants of the North Rimini!

A caccia di eco-regali / Searching for green gifts

A me capita praticamente tutti gli anni.
Gifts: the worst nightmare of Christmas if you lived when they are done in a hurry. Do not tell me that it’s never happened to you! It’s almost every year to me. Yet making Christmas gifts is one of the things that I ever liked as a child, when I gathered my savings to make gifts to everyone in the family, especially my little sister.

This year, maybe it’s not even half done. Still I want to spend so little money. I rubbed my eyes often in my researchs on the web not so much for hi-tech gadgets, but on creative blogs offering all kinds of eco-gifts: items made from recycled materials, clothing made from textiles waste, homemade cosmetics and jars filled not only with homemade jams, but also with mixtures for infusions and condiments.
All beautiful things, often flanked by DIY workshop, like the one of the dear Lo.
Too bad to be so far away from these wonderful people who not only give their passion and creativity to others but make things easier, especially this time. And what a pity not having thought before, I could have ordered gifts on the web! :(

Then there is someone next to me who has this fantastic creative talent but she well thougth to use it for making gifts to give to her friends. I’m talking about Cristella, friend and blogger for years, that has magic hands and with a lot of passion and patience made magnificent crochet accessories (holsters, necklaces and bracelets) with a wire made from recycled nylon stockings. Look at her post! Nice to be among people who received this precious gift! Thank you very much Cri! This year you were more green than me! :)

The beautiful necklace by Cristella

And to thank her and make small gift to other volunteer friends, by the help of sweet personal Santa, I was able to give some delicious cookies to hang on the Christmas tree. See them soon on these screens!

But for everyone else? What to do? For the little time I had, I went in search of genuine Christmas markets, but I miss the right days and time. Then I went around with ideas in my head and found nothing but things for people who, however, I will not see for Christmas. I have also missed a few greedy occasions...

Opera di The Park.
Like that – perhaps the only one in Rimini – “Matrioska”. It was more than a real market, three days (the first weekend of December) when all the creatives in the area have come together to show their fantastic creations. Dazzled by the location recreated in a theater and an old cloister and confused by hundreds of ideas, I was able to buy just for me an object that I needed, having absolutely rejected the hypothesis to do it myself, whilst not being able to: an eco-case for my tablet. Here it is. Beautiful, isn’t it?From The Park.

Piuttosto, però perché queste iniziative durano sempre così poco? Sgrunt! However, how selfish I am, I have made a gift for myself! :P
Instead, however, why do these initiatives always last for so little? Sgrunt!

You must know that I am “allergic” to plastic since I was young, especially to the plastic bags.
Every time I touch one of these I remind a picture of my past, when I was at home with my parents.
My mother, who, then as now, kept everything, absolutely everything, not having places assigned to individual things collected, created a bit of space where she might. Thus the table placed against the back wall of the kitchen, always used as an open pantry of each kind of food – obviously those who can stand at room temperature –, also became the deposit of plastic bags. In particular, they were crammed under that table, as matryoshkas, so there was a great bag where one inside the other were placed haphazardly all the other bags. Bags that could have dozens of years!
And then, do you remember how plastic bags of years and years ago were? They were coloured and  especially made in a hard glossy plastic. Shriveled, they made a lot of volume.

So she had created a monster of plastic! Whenever you needed a bag of a certain size, you risked of being swept into a blob of plastic regurgitated by the enormous bag!
While in the drawer of the same table were stored, never used, two cotton bags that my father had brought back from South Tyrol, where he worked back in 1984.

Tired of seeing bags accumulated in this huge mountain under the table, one day I had the crazy idea to reduce the huge size, folding bag to bag “in triangle”, as I learned from a fellow in Rome, during the my first year in college (they were the first years of the 90). So it was that it took me all day and all plastic bags made me feel sick!

That is why I literally hate plastic bags. I always try to avoid them, but, as they say, sometimes they come back!

Rifletteteci!
I am telling you this, because this week, from April 14 to 22, is the week of “Porta La Sporta!
A story that makes you reflect on how plastic bags can be intrusive, not only for our domestic environments, especially for the natural environment. Think of those who are lost, that end up in the country, crushed by the machines that work the land, or those that end into the sea, dissolved into fragments and swallowed by fish, turtles, sea birds!
The plastic ends up in the food chain and on our tables! Or they end up in our lungs, along with the worst incinerated waste! Please, think about it!

Facciamone a meno!
Let’s avoid plastic bags!
Nowadays there are several alternatives: cotton ones (which can be washed and back to life, as Giovanna suggested in a comment on Facebook), jute bags, unbreakable and durable plastic bags as those that are sold in some supermarkets, fabric bags reclosable and convenient to carry in your purse with beautiful even fashionable shapes and colors, bags made from umbrellas (I absolutely want to learn how to make them!) and, again, shopping bags, such as “French” ones, and for fruits and vegetables this type of meshed bag that you see in the video posted below. If you need to take one in the supermarket, there are now those in biodegradable material to be used for organic waste.
So, why are these plastic bags still around? Why, when you least expect, does someone put your purchase in a plastic bag with that hurry that doesn’t give you the time to say no?

Fortunately, despite the further postponement of the law on conversion of the manufacturers of plastic bags in producing biodegradable bags, something is moving in many municipalities, provincial agencies (including the province of Rimini) and other institutions for the diffusion of correct habits regarding recycling, reuse and waste reduction, thanks to the immense work of Porta La Sporta.

Evviva!
Some of retail shops and supermarkets are making great steps in this direction. In Rimini, for example, the charity second-hand shop of Mani Tese and my favorite organic shop, since the last year, and this supermarket join to this great initiative.
Hooray!

With strength and courage, people of reusable bags, let's go on and destroy the plastic monster!

Avviso ai lettori / Note to readers

This blog is still active. I still have many things to tell you! So if you have patience, sometimes I’ll be there. I recommend you to subscribe to my feed, in order to stay updated whenever I get the chance to tell you something new.

That said, I will tell you briefly something about me to give you an idea, without pretending to justify my last long absence.

Starete a vedere. Io intanto non mi perdo d’animo!
I came back to a "dead end" for the job.
It closes another chapter and I must start sending curricula and making the update of all that I will need to begin new experiences. I also intend to get back to learn about new technologies useful for working. You should always be updated to be competitive in my job! So, no breaks!
And even if the wind blows against and all say that jobs are lacking, I continue to trust in myself, to be forward looking and positive. I have nothing to lose!
I might even consider a plan B for survival. You'll be seeing. Meanwhile, I did not lose heart!

The last month has flown by quickly. For at least three days a week I’ve been busy with the usual two volunteer tasks and one more new.
So my virtual agenda (on my old trusty phone that begins to falter) is full of appointments!
Meetings by meetings, to discuss the things that ordinary events as much as scheduled ones.

So for Mani Tese we put on the usual “Iper-Charity Second-Hand bench” in the square with the sale of clothing and accessories from the charity shop. An event which normally we have always been enthusiastic, but not this time. In a square crowded with people on a Saturday morning, we could only count on our fingers the people concerned at the bench. A clear sign of crisis, but also of contradiction and contrast with the rest of the world!

More time was devoted to the preparation of the events of the association of  Ippocampo Viserba, such as meeting with the local elders in a social center and as the first exit into the main square for the bonfires dedicated to St. Joseph. Also for the first of these meetings there was a bit of disappointment seeing the elderly prefer to continue their card games rather than discover with us a place full of stories and curiosities. But what happens in the world?
Then the next event fortunately raised us: the banquet for the traditional feast of Focheraccia called  many visitors acclaiming for the work of memory recovering we are doing.

As a third commitment of the week, or rather the middle, my partner and I continued to attend the class about waste treatment, organized by the Open University of Rimini. I mentioned it at the beginning but I would tell you about it in a separate post, because it deserves. I learned so many things, thanks to very good teacher, and we have clarified many doubts, which happens almost always when it comes to waste.

Among the many things, a short article that talks about my blog in this magazine was edited. It is an article that talks about the world of us bloggers in the area of Rimini. Luckily there was not my ugly big face, but I was very pleased to be hosted by Rimini InMagazine again! I hope I have not disappointed with my absence my new readers arrived here from those pages.

A presto!
And I hope not to wait much longer, before I can speak of many things that whirl in my head. For now, I re-opened the curtains with this prologue and I will keep you company for the next day! ;)
See you soon!

Settimana bianca in montagna??? / Skiing holiday in the mountains??

Not at all, from now on you can also ski on the beaches of the Adriatic Coast!
And I’m not kidding!
After a week of uncertainty among sleet, water and snow storm and frosts, this last weekend has brought us so much snow that seems to be at a ski area!
Here in Rimini, today, Sunday, Feb. 5, on the beach there are 25 cm of snow! It snowed continuously for more than 36 hours and the temperatures are constantly below 0° C.
Do not believe us? Watch the slideshow below!

But we could not complain much ... who is the hinterland of Romagna is much worse. In some places the snow has now reached two meters and army, civil defense, volunteers are in action to shovel and give help to those in need.
In short, the winter we all have been waiting more or less a month ago has arrived. Late, but it is being felt! The rest of Italy is not far behind us and on social networks comments and photos of snow scenes are going crazy from everywhere ...

Bellissimo!
There is always the surprise and joy at seeing all white ... but there are also some very positive aspects. Some people suffer the cold ... for example, wild animals are the ones most affected.
Have you noticed these days a ever more frequently flutter? When it snows we see birds close to our homes that we have never seen before!
Just recently, I have seen on our roofs a bird of prey flying... hard to say if it was a buzzard or a screech owl or barn owl – his head was rather large and he has an elongated tail, but it’s been a while and I could not understand what species he was –.
This morning, however, we lifted our head for having heard a lot of strange cry and saw a flock of herons in flight going south!
As our mangers – which for so much snow we had to put all in the same spot where the birds are accustomed to finding food – have been besieged with sparrows, blackbirds, great tits, robins ... and now there is a last newcomer: a bullfinch chaffinch! Beautiful!

You can not just be spectators in this fluttering! During the day we replenished several times the feeders with seeds, granola, dried fruit, crumbs and Babbalù balls. It seems that it is never enough, but luckily we turn around and see that there are other neighbors to help feathered friends! In addition to our home front and even further down the same street many of them have put together mangers, like this:

It’s nice to see so many people come to life to help animals overcome this cold and thankfully the network is enlivening a great word of mouth recommendations to build feeders with makeshift materials. But this morning, while we were around to capture this strange landscape I have also heard, alas, noises similar to gunshots. I would not, indeed, I dare not imagine that there are ruthless hunters who take advantage of this tragic situation to kill innocent and helpless little birds! :(

Days like these should give us pause to think that we are dependent on the climate and nature that surrounds us. Is there in you anger with the simple fact that with all this snow we should go back to our activities, fussing and running as usual? To my mind, when nature puts us to the test, she throws us a message: we should better adapt to her rhythms, her seasons, her climate, respecting her!

News al volo e amici in volo / News on the fly and flying friends

How fast the weeks go! And I still have a lot of things to tell. But, meanwhile, things happen more, so many that I cannot pretend to hide and speak only of the past.
This first month of 2012 is already ended, and every day there is always something that attracts my attention, there is always something new to do every moment and always something to think about for the next days.

Like all those people who are a little more environmentally conscious, I couldn't avoid thinking on the tragedy of the Giglio Island, a so absurd and unthinkable thing, not for what happened but for how it happened. I almost felt involved because two of the missing people – I have still never got to know – shared a dear friend with me ...
When a disaster is felt so close and it affects your loved ones is easier to feel emotions such as anger and sadness. But a bitter conclusion still remains in me: the absurdity of the humans, with all they weaknesses and ambitions, when they want to show they are bigger than nature ...

What about our manifested dependence on oil? These days I heard so many rumors about the shortage of fuel due to many strikes ... empty shelves of supermarkets, big cities suddenly without the usual traffic, queues at gas stations. And to my surprise this week there was the boom in presence of passengers on the bus that I take to go to the office in the morning. Well, maybe some withdrawal from oil should be good for us!

Changing the subject, there are less distressing things that happen, fortunately. As the new class that I'm taking in, organized here in Rimini by the Open University "Federico Fellini and Giulietta Masina," which has as its topic "Waste as a new resource: management and treatment." It's a course of 8 lessons taught by Simona Bertini and Edolo Minarelli, both engineers directly involved in managing the entire waste cycle in the province of Rimini.
When I knew it, I did not hesitate to join for the curiosity to learn and something more than what I already know. And I think this is a great opportunity, because it is increasingly rare that such notions are made available to ordinary citizens! So, soon I'll be even more up to date and ready to answer all your questions on recycling and everything around!

Other events I would like to remind everyone to mark on the agenda for the next few months are: the next "M'illumino di meno" to be held February 17 and the "National Week of Porta la Sporta" that will be between 14 and 22 April. But we will have time to update on what to do on those occasions!

Another wonderful thing that happened to me recently: I was interviewed by the dear blogger friend Elena for Madreterra's Weblog. I take this opportunity to thank you again her and invite you to read the post if you still do not know all about my blog!

Instead I would like to dwell for a moment on this planet that lately more and more manifests signs of impatience with the crazy weather and earthquakes (fortunately not come here). And what are the causes?Magnetic storms? Pollution? The fact is that in recent days the temperature is undergoing dramatic changes. These last days of January are the famous "blackbird's days," as reminiscent of some posts of my bloggers friends Cristella and Lunarossa.
We do not know if it will snow here on the sea – snow is late here, compared to previous years – but we are preparing a most intense cold.
So, we will give more attention to sustaining our
friends birds who come every day to feed on what we offer them: biscuits, sweets, seeds, crumbs, dried fruit and various cereals ...
So, as promised I wanted to show what we prepared before leaving for the Christmas holidays, in order to not leave the birds without food.

We created the now famous "Babbalù's ball", an ENPA recommendation, then deepened by Luby, which was very clicked on the web. This has been a favorite of our friend Robin.
Since the size of the ball was quite a bit big and there was the danger of breaking, we put them in amesh bag. To avoid that our friends get stuck (like Luby recommended), we stuck some sticks into so birds could lean with legs and caught hold onto the net. And it worked! We observed the robin in our back and we were very happy because he particularly liked and used the manger just like we imagined!

We also put at their disposal a new covered crib, full of seeds and a smaller always covered one, with water. These last two courtesy of my colleague who is an expert in bird life and gave me as well as suggestions for making the "ball" and also seeds and specific feed for blackbirds.
In short what a coming and going, this winter, with feathers and a chorus of "tweets"! Fortunately, we believe them to keep us happy!
