Famiglie a Rifiuti Zero d’Italia, unitevi!!! / Italian Zero Waste families, let's join together!!!

Last weekend was a bit special because I was back in my beloved Puglia!
I got to see my mom, my sister and a few close friends. And I took the opportunity to do a few laps in my hometown, Canosa, and around, bringing myself to Bisceglie, where
for the first time in so many years I could see the Romanesque cathedral and the magnificent Dolmen called "della Chianca"!

Whenever I return to my homeland I feel a strong emotion. Sometimes, however, it is spoiled by the sight of waste abandoned by the roads of town and country...
A pity, because Puglia is a beautiful land, and at this time is coloured by the golden yellow daisies and the purple hollyhocks and the wild red poppies! The beauty of the monuments, the olive trees, the blue of the sea... but... my fellows, why do you continue to dump waste in every corner of this strip of so beautiful
land???

So I can continue this heartfelt plea to tell you about an initiative that is also, if desired, a proposal.

Just from the 1st of May 2015 – I couldn't wait to tell you – thanks, to the dear friend blogger Chiara's of the "Il bilancio del bidone" blog, I was involved in the project "Zero Waste Families" organized by a group of people between the Ethical Purchasing Group and the headquarters of Legambiente Lamone at Faenza.
It is a sort of challenge which has the goal of becoming a real daily routine and these days the members of its group on Facebook are spreading like wildfire, reaching all the areas of Italy!
The
details in the image below.

Have a sustainable way of life, be aware of our own waste and consumption is now a thing from which we cannot be longer apart, for the damage we have caused to our planet, but it's also something exciting and constructive, which makes you discover each day something new, new people, your hidden virtues, such as knowing how to repair, self-produce, save, etc.!

Allora perché no?
Famiglie a Rifiuti Zero d’Italia, unitevi!!! :)
So why not? Before leaving for Puglia we emptied all the bins of recycling and unrecycled waste, weighed them (for tare) and be ready for the challenge. Now it is already a week since the project started and we are happily "in the race", knowing that we would not win nothing but the satisfaction of having done something good for ourselves, for other people and the whole planet!Zero Waste Families of Italy, let's join together!!! :)

Cominciamo il 2015 con il Plastic Guerrilla Contest di Katia! / Start your 2015 with Katia's Plastic Guerrilla Contest!

And finally here’s the new year!!!
I would like to start the 2015 by telling you something beautiful, even though these days turning on the TV it is impossible to ignore bad news.
Little healthy positive thoughts would not hurt, would help us to look at events from a different point of view, to feel lucky and not to feel victims…

So, I wanted to start by positive cues from me (and I have lots) but I want to share this post of my blogger friend Katia, who this year has made a very personal pledge with great courage and commitment involving all her readers with a contest.

I believe that her contest is fantastic, especially for the message: to abolish totally plastics!!!
You know how much I care about this topic, then I urge you to participate!!!

So here’s the link to visit, then you can participate by following her suggestions.

I’ll come back in a few days with good news, this time by me! ;)

Un 2015 come… voi lo volete!!! / A 2015 ... as you want it !!!

Here we are, these are the last hours of this year, 2014, that for me was a year to forget, Christmas included.
But I will not be sad, indeed, forgive me if I have not been here in the past few months, if I could not wish you Happy Holidays in time...
Usually the last day of year neurons in my mind enjoy doing a report of the time I’ve spent. And I let them do.
The result is a list of feelings, memories, intentions. Here I’ll report only the good things:

• I sewed up the broken wires, I regained confidence in myself, in the people I love and who surround me. I looked at the bottom of the hearts of many people who were by me –even virtually– in sad moments and I found much sincere affection which I really need.

• I got to deepen friendships and make new ones. It's never too late to realize that there is someone who truly loves you beyond the appearances!

• I understand that you should never give up, that looking good inside you there is always a bit of energy reserve, to which we must draw in the darkest hour and nourish it with positivity to brighten your days again!

• I have had confirmation that things do not happen by chance. I realized that life is made up of a network of roots that are intertwined in the ground and branches that are intertwined in the sky. Just make an effort to better understand some of the events of your life.

• I have started a new nice job collaboration that involves my two passions this time: the web and environment.

• I experienced new works of upcycling in my volunteer commitments. I hope to be able to devote more time to this blog in the new year coming to show you them with new posts.

• I still have so many ideas in the drawer to put into practice in the new year. I want to have time to do it and share them with you.

• I want to feel happy with what I do, I want to live fully my life, I want to be prepared to events, to anticipate actions and words of the people I will meet.

• I want to meet you all here on this blog.

And what do you dream for the new year? I wish it was as you want it!

Buon 2014 con tanti... Gufi!!! / Happy 2014 with lots of... Owls!!!

And the last day of the year has come too, a day full of thoughts sometimes ... superstitious !

So, on the subject, I thought I'd post a picture of this wonderful owl –I love owls!– Created by my blogger friend Claudia, who has made by hand many of these to raise funds for the SMA Families association that brings together the parents of children affected by spinal muscular atrophy.

I'm not very good at writing words adequate to these people from the immense soul, who work to improve the lives of other people thanks not only to economict contributions, but primarily to the personal commitment, often dedicating time and devoting heart.

I tried to participate in an infinitesimal gesture and I was surprised by how much little I've done has been enjoyed both by my friend and by the same association that immediately sent me a thank you letter.

These are things that are good for your heart, that give you hope and happiness.See how the patient work of the hands of a sensitive person like Claudia give birth to something that has much more value than the object itself, because it is full of love and meaning, makes me think that the world in which we live, there is hope, solidarity and love.

Who knows, 2014 could really be a better year! I wish it from the bottom of my heart to everybody!

Settembre, novità, propositi e... / September, news, pledges and...

Che succede? Piove? L’estate sembra finita?
What’s up? Is it raining? Is the summer over?
I know, you’ve lost the enthusiasm and are returning to work – who’s got a job – , out of humour ... And then Danda no longer writes on her blog!
Yes, you’re totally right, but I did not say that ...

Grazie ancora siete meravigliosi!
I started to work at full pace, although for me this is still a trial period. And you know, when there is a job you want at all costs ... well, there is no other commitment that you can take! But obviously I haven’t forgotten you and all your encouraging comments that with a great surprise I found after my first post on London. Thanks again you are wonderful!

Vi spiego come.
However, you must also know that though my free time is less and less, I might be able to find a bit of it. I'm explaining how.

When you work out all day at the computer, sitting fixed at a desk, the desire to stay there again to write a post disappears.
For some time I wished something that would allow me to write away from my desk and maybe even on trains, buses ...
My wish has come true thanks to a sensational – it is, because it not normally ever happens to me – winning at a contest offered by the Italian Post for those who use the pre-paid card for their purchases. At home a few days ago I received a wonderful tablet that, therefore, allows me to be more present on the blog and on various social networks!

Contenti? Io sì! :)
Happy? I do! :)
Well, having said that, come to what I would like to tell you earlier this week.

Staying on the theme with Britain, you know that yesterday the National ZeroWaste Week started, promoted at the forefront from the blog My Zero Waste by Rachel Strauss and her family. It is now five years that, at this time, more and more virtuous British engage themselves in some useful purpose to reduce the production of waste. This year’s theme is “do one thing more.”

E io cosa c’entro?
And what have I to share with them? Yes, it is true that there in London I left my heart and from that day I set foot on British soil, I feel a bit English too. But this was not enough ... some good angel has decided to involve me in this campaign, inviting me through the Facebook page of the event to join them with one of my pledge ...

Mumble mumble ... I thought and thought long about what I could do more to avoid waste that can't be recycled in some way. Anyone who knows me since a long time, knows that I already practice home composting, recycle as much as possible, buy stuff on tap or in bulk, avoiding excessive packaging, use reusable containers and bags and produce a lot of things at home (yogurt, dough for pizzas and pies, and in some periods, even the bread). In addition, some corners of my home are dedicated to the temporary storage of objects, packaging and other not-recyclable things, waiting to be creatively converted to a new use.

So, what to do this week? A new challenge to zero waste? Try to reuse leftovers of food and minimize waste? Reconsider some consumptions and try to find alternatives? How to improve waste reduction more?

I could not find an original idea ... so it will be a “work in progress” week. Whatever will be made and designed in order to avoid to waste, trying to post ideas and suggestions on Twitter and Facebook for the occasion, tablet in hand! ;)

Intanto voglio svelarvi chi mi ha invitato a prendere parte all’iniziativa:
Meanwhile I want to reveal you who invited me to take part in the initiative:

Almost Mrs Average and me @ the perfect location! ;)

Ta-daaaaaa!!!
Ta-daaaaaa!
Yes, yes, it is she, Almost Mrs Average, aka Karen Kannard, the wonderful well-known blogger in Suffolk, I met in London and I know virtually at least since six years, during which I have written and commented on her blog “The Rubbish Diet”. A strange name for a blog that has intrigued and fascinated me from the first moment and that prompted me to write in two languages on my blog, just to share our intent.

Karen has always been friendly and has always shown attentive to the problems caused by our own waste management. In person she was surprisingly affectionate, for you would have mistaken her for a real Italian, and when we met in London, we recognized ourselves from a distance and we hugged like we were dear old friends for years! We then walked and chatted for hours – yes, about waste but most about our lives –, in a beautiful and unusual sun in London.
It’s great to know that a friendship can be born even not knowing the person and can be strengthened through a sincere communication, albeit in a virtual form. Just be who you are and Karen is a wonderful person, I had no doubt! A formidable mother, busy on all fronts, interested in many things, creative, cheerful and generous!

Vi racconterò dove siamo state. Vero Karen? ;)
I’ll tell you where we were. A place that not all those who were in London know. In the meantime, pop on her blog and read what she’s up this week in her kitchen overrun with dishes and unused appliances. Sure she has clear ideas and she is always a great inspiration. Come on, a little effort with English is good for us. Isn’t it, Karen? ;)

Avviso ai lettori / Note to readers

This blog is still active. I still have many things to tell you! So if you have patience, sometimes I’ll be there. I recommend you to subscribe to my feed, in order to stay updated whenever I get the chance to tell you something new.

That said, I will tell you briefly something about me to give you an idea, without pretending to justify my last long absence.

Starete a vedere. Io intanto non mi perdo d’animo!
I came back to a "dead end" for the job.
It closes another chapter and I must start sending curricula and making the update of all that I will need to begin new experiences. I also intend to get back to learn about new technologies useful for working. You should always be updated to be competitive in my job! So, no breaks!
And even if the wind blows against and all say that jobs are lacking, I continue to trust in myself, to be forward looking and positive. I have nothing to lose!
I might even consider a plan B for survival. You'll be seeing. Meanwhile, I did not lose heart!

The last month has flown by quickly. For at least three days a week I’ve been busy with the usual two volunteer tasks and one more new.
So my virtual agenda (on my old trusty phone that begins to falter) is full of appointments!
Meetings by meetings, to discuss the things that ordinary events as much as scheduled ones.

So for Mani Tese we put on the usual “Iper-Charity Second-Hand bench” in the square with the sale of clothing and accessories from the charity shop. An event which normally we have always been enthusiastic, but not this time. In a square crowded with people on a Saturday morning, we could only count on our fingers the people concerned at the bench. A clear sign of crisis, but also of contradiction and contrast with the rest of the world!

More time was devoted to the preparation of the events of the association of  Ippocampo Viserba, such as meeting with the local elders in a social center and as the first exit into the main square for the bonfires dedicated to St. Joseph. Also for the first of these meetings there was a bit of disappointment seeing the elderly prefer to continue their card games rather than discover with us a place full of stories and curiosities. But what happens in the world?
Then the next event fortunately raised us: the banquet for the traditional feast of Focheraccia called  many visitors acclaiming for the work of memory recovering we are doing.

As a third commitment of the week, or rather the middle, my partner and I continued to attend the class about waste treatment, organized by the Open University of Rimini. I mentioned it at the beginning but I would tell you about it in a separate post, because it deserves. I learned so many things, thanks to very good teacher, and we have clarified many doubts, which happens almost always when it comes to waste.

Among the many things, a short article that talks about my blog in this magazine was edited. It is an article that talks about the world of us bloggers in the area of Rimini. Luckily there was not my ugly big face, but I was very pleased to be hosted by Rimini InMagazine again! I hope I have not disappointed with my absence my new readers arrived here from those pages.

A presto!
And I hope not to wait much longer, before I can speak of many things that whirl in my head. For now, I re-opened the curtains with this prologue and I will keep you company for the next day! ;)
See you soon!

Siete pronti a questo Natale? / Are you ready for this Christmas?

Io no!!!

Spero di no.

AUGURI!

Non c'è niente da fare... / There's nothing to do...

As I already anticipated in the previous post, the European Week for Waste Reduction is ending today.
It seems like this year lots of people were involved on the web – see the links below –. All this seems positive, as the event was created only three years ago. But if you have other news about bloggers joining, let me know in comments!

The worse thing, instead, is that I failed... To say the truth I was starting with good premises, but then was disappointed by the total lack of people joining my personal initiative I launched through my blog and my private profile on Facebook. Perhaps I wasn't so much persuasive.

I claimed to participate with a little contribution: I offered to become a guide for friends and blog readers in order to better organize recycling in their homes and help them reducing waste, having acquired several years knowledge and information on recycling.

But this doesn't discourage me! I'm not going to retire from this commitment.
And on my blog I'll soon put a widget from which you can go directly to my email, asking for help or for a meeting in person with me about recycling your waste.
I'm well equipped with handbooks and materials on waste recycling and facilities. Part of this material will be made available, on specific request via e-mail.

To sum up, I'll be a sort of "recycling Doctor"!!! :)

A cosa servirebbe?
In short, don't be afraid to admit difficulties and frustrations in trying to make a good recycling!
Why? We must help ourselves to make less waste, otherwise we will all pay the consequences. Not only overflowing landfills near our homes but incinerators invisibly polluting our air, and, finally – perhaps a more tangible thing –, we will pay the consequences in our bills and taxes. Italy is at a very high risk of heavy fines not behaving well in recycling waste, do you know?

Then, there was another small commitment for me regarding the EWWR: I had to be committed to join the program of "Porta la Sporta", raising awareness among shops and supermarkets in my town to reduce packaging. But I was losing myself on other ten-thousand commitments as volunteer and now I'm still at the point in which I'm building a map of places to where addressing a letter on that issue.
So, also this commitment is not ending today. I'll uptdate you soon.

Eravamo in pochissimi...
Anyway I'm still disappointed that people are really not interested to reduce waste.
Last Friday I went to an interesting meeting on "How to turn waste into resources," in Bellaria Igea Marina. This event was very unnoticed. The audience was very scarce...
At the meeting two associations occurred on this issue. They have much to say: the Less Waste Committee of the Province of Rimini, in the person of Robert Biondi, who illustrated very well the criticality on waste that affects the territorial area of Rimini, and then another association of which I am part for nearly three years. It is Mani Tese of Rimini, for which Stella Mecozzi spoke, a terrific person with a thousand resources. She talked about current and future activities of the association and about the values of environmental sustainability and social justice under which all groups working in Italy support the South of the world.

In short, I wanted to find many people to discuss many things with, but... there is nothing to do, it seems that nobody wants to stick the nose in his trash to see what happens...

Ci vuole una certa faccia... / It takes a certain face ...

Yeah, it takes just the cheek!
No, do not worry, this time I will not complain about anyone.
I say it to myself. While I’m not being able to go on steadily writing on my blog, I made two beautiful commitments under the sunshine and the eyes of all Italy ...

One is the European Week for Waste Reduction

L’altro è all'interno dell'iniziativa “Facce Energetiche, il Testimonial sei tu!”.
The other one is for the initiative “Faces of Energy, the Testimonial is You!”

The inevitable first date – which for me is in its third year by now – will take place from Saturday 19 to Sunday 27 this month. Well, here we go!
I wouldn't repeat
another zero waste week.
But I needed to engage myself in something bigger, something that will not last a week, but from this week onwards!

Come ho già scritto, aderendo personalmente all’iniziativa sul sito,
As I wrote by joining personally the initiative on the site,
I’ll offer the chance to meet me in person to people who know me and those who follow my blog, in order to explain how they can improve their recycling, bringing my direct experience. In addition , I will adhere personally to the program of “Porta la Sporta”, contacting, if possible, the local retailers to ask for the reduction of packaging.

This is because many people go on asking me about recycling and show me all their problems or concerns about it. I, strong in my experience, during many years accumulated a wealth of knowledge and I want to make this material available to everyone!

Insomma eccomi a voi, mi metto nelle vostre mani!
In short, here I am, I put myself in your hands!
I put me at your disposal to explain word for word how to recycle with a light heart and, above all, how to make less waste!
I’ll give more details next week.

But passing to the second commitment, it was born since the last walk in the Ecomondo, the International Trade Fair of Material & Energy Recovery and Sustainable Development, which this year has reached its fifteenth edition.

About this, I would give you more detail but not in this post. But I can anticipate that Irish and me were taken in a photo as the face of a very interesting campaign, involving in person the citizens of the city in the Emilia Romagna region. It ask them to implement a purpose relating to energy saving and environmental sustainability.
So, after writing our good intentions on a module, we provided to launch our message through a photograph that will be published soon on the site of ErmesAmbiente, going to complete the corolla of other citizens’ good intentions already launched last October.

E cosa abbiamo proposto? Lo scoprirete molto presto!
And what did we propose? You’ll find out very soon!

Insomma, che faccia tosta! :)
I mean, what a cheek! :)
And you, why don’t you have the cheek to make your good proposals?

See you soon with European Week for Waste Reduction! We accept bookings already! ;)

From STOP to… POST!!!

What a shame!
4 years passed since I began my adventure with this blog, and this year I’m breaking the negative record of posts... only 24!
In short, my dear readers, why don’t you say anything?
Why don’t you come to pull my ears?

L’avete sicuramente visto tutti voi amici blogger, vero? Sto parlando di Julie & Julia.
Days ago I saw a movie that I found very funny and very similar to my experience, even if, while dealing with blogs, it does not touch at all the issues that are dear to me.
All of you, blogger friends, have probably seen it, right? I’m talking about Julie & Julia.

Ok, I’m not a foodblogger, but in my way I started this adventure with much enthusiasm and, no! I'm not going to stop it through fault of my will.

Did many of you feel like Julie, starting to write without knowing who would read your own mental speculations? And how many expected the first comment not from a relative or a friend? And how many have enjoyed for unexpected praise from unexpected people? Who had labored to keep alive its pages, despite the real life keeps the blog far, with the thousand daily commitments?

If I think about it, I even found an episode very similar to one of Julie in the film...

Then, I see myself when I was asked to go on TV to tell my experience, or when I appeared in the pages of a magazine... they are the small joys of being a blogger.

Really, it’s not the mere fact of becoming “somebody” but being out of myself, the realization that others share my thoughts, the joy of feeling my experience useful to others and feel part of a a huge world that through keyboard becomes available on every corner.

So just stop to “stop”, I will go on to post and who loves me, follow me!

Chiusi per ferie? Macché! / Closed for holidays? Not at all!

Blog chiuso per ferie?
Macché! Magari!!!
Blog closed for holidays?
Not at all! Maybe!
Every day work engulfs me and destroys every ounce of strength to take some extra initiatives.
I survive, with the messed up bus schedules to go and come, with things to do that accumulate, with the heat, with the weariness of months that begins to be heard.
But there is something positive and good and I'll tell it to you as soon as I a "piece" will arrive at home completing a great work!
But I cannot anticipate anything, sorry!

Back at home, I'm grappling with a busy summer!

For some friends and relatives come to stay for a few days with us.
My first guests were very special friends who gave us a great company, then it was the turn of my family, especially my mom and sister.
When a guest walks away from home, whoever he is, always leaves a great emptiness inside me! It always happens with the members of my family I see very few times. Among hugs and kisses there are also some moments of discussion that then pass into the background compared to the joy of being together.

However, what isn't left empty, since my family was leaving, is the bin of rubbish...
It is not easy to maintain and communicate your eco-sustainable habits to guests!
And while the first (friends) behaved very well, the latter weren't so virtuous...
I must admit that my mom – of which I spoke well in a previous post – has a little-big problem: she buy so much and without thinking.
So these days I have had serious management problems of excess food and unwished food packaging who ended up in my not-recyclable garbage.
I'll tell you some details soon...
My little sister instead tried to be more careful and I was constantly bombarded with questions about where to throw this or that, making me realize that, indeed for some people, it is not easy to recognize certain materials to recycle well. It is even more difficult to keep in mind, before buying a thing, that a good part of what we are buying could be waste!
So my next goal is to work more and more in this direction: to inform as many people as possible, to make understand the simplicity of each gesture done not only for environment, but also for themselves...

Meanwhile, outside of my house ideas to write on the blog never missed.
Too bad that, instead, the weather was a tyrant and I had not the opportunity to jot down a thought in my little green notebook...
Around the summer literally exploded and from a "pink night" in Rimini, pleasantly and surprisingly crowded with bicycles, we arrived in second half of a hot July. Air conditioners shooting cold air anywhere even where no needed, people are taking pains to reach the sea driving hours and hours for hundreds of miles in cars with more and more facilities, more and more
large, more and more... unfortunately, too many! While some opt for more ecological resources, increasingly putting their own life at risk, because of the cars above...

In short ideas for thoughts that are often lost in the maze of my mind and cannot get on the blog... at least for now.
But do not worry, I'm keeping everything aside and I'll make you join in whenever I can!
For those who are still there, let me know how your summer started and for those are leaving, have a good summer!

Non solo per l'acqua!!! / Not only for water!!!

E invece no. Capito?
Riflettete, gente...
E andate a votare!

Do you like to read "We give you pure and simply water..."???
I do not.
At best, they could write, "distribute". But no. Got it?
Water belongs to everyone!
Warning, under our eyes it is happening what only a few want!
This makes you realize how natural resources, even the simplest are becoming commodities.
Think, people...
And vote!
Not just for water but for all that would endanger our future, our Earth, the future of our children, equality and freedom.
