Già, ci vuole proprio una bella faccia tosta!
No, non preoccupatevi, stavolta non ce l’ho con nessuno.
Lo dico a me stessa che, pur non riuscendo a portare avanti in maniera costante il mio blog, mi sono presa due bellissimi impegni alla luce del sole e sotto gli occhi di tutta Italia...

I say it to myself. While I’m not being able to go on steadily writing on my blog, I made two beautiful commitments under the sunshine and the eyes of all Italy ... 

Uno è la Settimana Europea per la Riduzione dei Rifiuti.
One is the European Week for Waste Reduction. 

L’altro è all'interno dell'iniziativa “Facce Energetiche, il Testimonial sei tu!”.
The other one is for the initiative “Faces of Energy, the Testimonial is You!” 

L’immancabile primo appuntamento, che ormai per me è al terzo anno, si svolgerà da sabato 19 a domenica 27 di questo mese. Insomma, ci siamo!
Non mi sentivo di riproporre un’altra settimana a zero rifiuti.
Ma avevo bisogno di impegnarmi in qualcosa di più grande, qualcosa che però non durerà solo una settimana, ma da questa settimana in poi!
The inevitable first date – which for me is in its third year by now – will take place from Saturday 19 to Sunday 27 this month. Well, here we go!
I wouldn't repeat another zero waste week.
But I needed to engage myself in something bigger, something that will not last a week, but from this week onwards! 

Come ho già scritto, aderendo personalmente all’iniziativa sul sito, 

“offrirò alle persone che mi conoscono e quelle che seguono il mio blog la possibilità di incontrarle e spiegare di persona come potranno migliorare la propria raccolta differenziata, portando la mia diretta esperienza. Inoltre, aderirò personalmente al programma di Porta la Sporta, contattando, se possibile, le realtà locali della distribuzione per chiedere la riduzione degli imballaggi.” 

As I wrote by joining personally the initiative on the site, 

“I’ll offer the chance to meet me in person to people who know me and those who follow my blog, in order to explain how they can improve their recycling, bringing my direct experience. In addition , I will adhere personally to the program of “Porta la Sporta”, contacting, if possible, the local retailers to ask for the reduction of packaging.” 

Questo perché molte persone mi chiedono in continuazione informazioni sul riciclo dei rifiuti e mi mostrano tutte le loro difficoltà o perplessità. Io, forte della mia esperienza, in tanti anni ho accumulato un bagaglio di nozioni e materiale che voglio mettere a disposizione di tutti!
This is because many people go on asking me about recycling and show me all their problems or concerns about it. I, strong in my experience, during many years accumulated a wealth of knowledge and I want to make this material available to everyone! 

Insomma eccomi a voi, mi metto nelle vostre mani!
Mi metto a vostra disposizione per spiegarvi per filo e per segno come fare una raccolta differenziata a cuor leggero e soprattutto come fare meno rifiuti!

I put me at your disposal to explain word for word how to recycle with a light heart and, above all, how to make less waste!

Ma passiamo al secondo impegno, nato dall'ultima passeggiata in quel di Ecomondo, la Fiera del Recupero di Materia ed Energia e dello Sviluppo Sostenibile che quest'anno è arrivata alla quindicesima edizione.
But passing to the second commitment, it was born since the last walk in the Ecomondo, the International Trade Fair of Material & Energy Recovery and Sustainable Development, which this year has reached its fifteenth edition. 

Anche di questo vorrei parlarvi più nel dettaglio e non in questo post. Però vi anticipo che io e Irish ci siamo fatti immortalare come testimonial di una campagna molto interessante, che coinvolge i cittadini delle città dell’Emilia Romagna in prima persona, chiedendo loro di attuare un proposito in materia di risparmio energetico e sostenibilità ambientale.
Così, dopo aver scritto i nostri buoni propositi su dei moduli, ci siamo prestati per lanciare il nostro messaggio attraverso una fotografia che verrà pubblicata prossimamente sul sito di ErmesAmbiente, andando a completare la corolla dei buoni propositi già lanciati in altre città nello scorso ottobre.
About this, I would give you more detail but not in this post. But I can anticipate that Irish and me were taken in a photo as the face of a very interesting campaign, involving in person the citizens of the city in the Emilia Romagna region. It ask them to implement a purpose relating to energy saving and environmental sustainability.
So, after writing our good intentions on a module, we provided to launch our message through a photograph that will be published soon on the site of ErmesAmbiente, going to complete the corolla of other citizens’ good intentions already launched last October. 
E cosa abbiamo proposto? Lo scoprirete molto presto!
And what did we propose? You’ll find out very soon!

Si parte con... AmbienteFestival!!! / Let's start with... AmbienteFestival!!!

Siete tutti pronti per AmbienteFestival?
Bene! La manifestazione riminese, tutta dedicata all'ambiente – quest'anno in particolare alla biodiveristà –, arrivata alla sua seconda edizione, è già partita oggi – qualche giorno fa con qualche anteprima – con un ricchissimo programma di iniziative per tutti, dai piccoli ai grandi, coinvolgendo cittadinanza e visitatori.
Il calendario, che potete consultare qui, si snoda dal 29 ottobre al 7 novembre 2010, accompagnando, quindi, anche la più nota esposizione Ecomondo, che invece si terrà in fiera, sempre a Rimini, dal 3 al 6 novembre 2010.
Are you ready for AmbienteFestival?
Well! The event, all dedicated to environment – this year to the biodiversity – come to the 2nd edition, already started today in Rimini – some days ago with some preview – with a very rich program of initiatives for everone, young, old, citizens and visitors.
The schedule – you can find it here – includes all the days from October 29th to November 7th, contemporary to the more famous Ecomondo, the exhibition that will occurr from 3rd to 6th November, even in Rimini.   

La città di Rimini in questi giorni si trasforma, prende colore e rinnova la sua spiccata inclinazione alla sostenibilità ambientale.
Ci saranno mostre di ogni tipo, botteghe e stand, laboratori, conferenze, presentazioni di libri.
During these days the city of Rimini is changing, take colours and renews its strong interests toward the evironmental sustainability.
There will be exhibitions, green shops, laboratories, conferences and book presentations. 

Anche io parteciperò con Mani Tese ai due laboratori che si terranno al palazzo del Podestà domani 30 ottobre: il primo sarà un laboratorio dedicato al riciclo delle nostre preferite t-shirt, che saranno trasformate in meravigliose borsine; nel secondo faremo divertire i più piccini a creare con ritagli di stoffe, lana, bottoni e altro il loro personale mostro di Halloween...
Sarà divertente e non tarderò a farvi un resoconto della giornata.

I will participate too with Mani Tese to the two laboratories that will be played in the Podestà palace tomorrow, 30th October: the first laboratory will be dedicated to the recycle of our favourite t-shirts. They will be transformed in wonderful bags. In the second one we will have fun with the childern creating their own halloween monster with scraps of fabrics, wool, buttons and other kinds of materials. 
We will enjoy it and I'll tell you soon.

Sempre su AmbienteFestival ‘09 / About AmbienteFestival ’09 again

Comincio questo post col ringraziare tutte le persone che hanno cercato di risollevarmi, leggendo le mie note di sconforto su quanto sta accadendo in questi giorni a Rimini.
L’entusiasmo sta tornando, credetemi, e questo soprattutto grazie a voi!
I start this post thanking all the people who tried to raise me, reading my notes of discouragement on what is happening these days in Rimini. Enthusiasm is coming again, believe me, and this happens thanks to you!

Sabato e domenica scorsa, nemmeno a farlo apposta, io e Irish avevamo programmato un’escursione nella zona del Delta del Po per staccare la spina. Sono stati due giorni molto belli e mi sono serviti per prendere una pausa, dimenticando le amare riflessioni e rinnovando la mia passione per la natura. Anche se al mio ritorno ho ritrovato un clima ancora più teso, ho ritrovato lo stesso un po’ di equilibrio per capire quali sono i miei limiti e quali invece sono le qualità su cui posso ancora puntare per sentirmi coerente con me stessa.
Probabilmente molto ha influito la sinergia con Madre Terra… durante la breve gita, abbiamo fatto un bellissimo incontro con un daino che faceva il suo quotidiano giro nel Gran Bosco della Mesola! Ma di questo val la pena di dedicare un post a parte, più in là, ma comunque presto.
Last Saturday and Sunday, as if on purpose, Irish and me planned a hike in the land of the Delta of Po, as to cut off power from the stress of the week. They were two wonderful days and I take the chance to relax, forgetting bitter thoughts and newly finding me fond of nature. Even if coming back home I found a tense atmosphere, I found also a bit of mental balance to understand what are my limits and what instead are my qualities on which I must trust to feel consistent with myself.
Probably Mother Nature gave me the strength… during this short hike we had an incredible meeting with a deer who was having a ride in the Big Wood of Mesola! But I will tell you about this sooner!

Oggi mi preme parlarvi delle belle scoperte che ho fatto ieri sera…
Dopo esserci recati al solito negozio ‘bio’ per una spesa urgente, e accorgerci di aver sbagliato orario – avrei dovuto prendere in considerazione quello invernale –, abbiamo deciso di non sprecare a vuoto il viaggio in macchina e visitare il centro di Rimini, in particolare piazza Cavour, che è in questi giorni il luogo più animato grazie ad AmbienteFestival.
A quell’ora ormai erano chiuse le attività di laboratorio, e parte di quelle commerciali relative ad Ecomia. Non c’erano particolari conferenze, come quelle che da stasera in poi riprenderanno vita, ma restavano aperte – credo fino alle 22, e questo accade ogni giorno – diverse esposizioni davvero interessanti:
Today I’m telling about pleasant discovering I did yesterday evening…
After going to the eco shop for a urgent shopping, and having noticed that was closed – we didn’t consider the new winter opening time – we decided not to waste time and fuel spent by car but to go visiting the centre of Rimini. In particular Cavour square which is the most animated place in the city, thanks to AmbienteFestival.
On that time laboratory and commercial activities – which ones of Ecomia – were ended. There weren’t special conferences, as those ones that start from today evening. But many expositions were still opened – and they are almost open every day until 10 p.m.–:

• La mostra “Rifiuti in cerca d’autore”: una carrellata di opere d’arte e installazioni, alcune davvero geniali, che hanno come tema o come materiale di realizzazione i rifiuti. Alcuni quadri mi hanno veramente impressionato… mostrano quanto la questione rifiuti sia entrata nel cuore di alcune persone, suscitando orrore, sconforto, ma anche creatività e voglia di dar vita dai rifiuti stessi a qualcosa di nuovo e bello. Non è un caso che la gran parte degli artisti in esposizione sono di origine campana! A questo link – dove ho scoperto che il concorso attinente è aperto ancora fino al 30 novembre – potete vederne qualche foto.
The “Waste Looking for Authors” exhibition: it is a show of artworks – many very ingenious – that have garbage as theme or as work materials. Some pictures impressed me so much… they show how the waste problems broke some people’s heart, provoking horror, discouragement, but also creativity and the will to transform waste in something new and nice. Not by chance many artists are from Campania! At this link – where I discovered that the connected competition will end the 30th November – you can see some pictures.

• L’esposizione “Le buone pratiche”, dove le istituzioni, gli enti e i soggetti privati, che partecipano alla manifestazione, mettono a disposizione le loro informazioni per modificare in “eco” le proprie azioni quotidiane. Da notare la scenografia fatta interamente in materiale da recupero (moquette, ferro, legno e cartone), elaborata da artisti e professionisti del design.
The show “Good Practises” where institutions, boards and private companies, who participate to the event, offer their information to make green your daily actions. To be mentioned the scenery entirely made with reuse materials (carpeting, iron, wood and carton), elaborated from artists and designers.

• Le due mostre fotografiche “Riclick Preview: quando un rifiuto diventa una risorsa” e “Visione periferica”, due modi differenti di concepire la fotografia come espressione di ciò che oggi avviene sotto i nostri occhi nei contesti urbani e non. Composizioni fotografiche molto originali, devo dire!
The two shows “Riclick Preview: When Waste Becomes Resource” and “Suburban Vision”, two different ways to use photography as expression of what today happens under our eyes, in cities and out there. Photographic compositions were very original, I must say!

• La boutique etica “Re-arts” e il bookshop. Un posto dove devo assolutamente tornare! Si possono acquistare vari accessori realizzati da diversi artisti e artigiani fatti con materiale di recupero: borse fatte con teli in pvc stampati, gomma da copertoni, magliette e sportine con una grafica realizzata da persone in carcere, collane e cinture in scarti di stoffa, sedili, anelli e spille realizzati con i lego e con i tasti dei computer. E che dire per la scelta dei libri… ricchissima e interessantissima!
The ethic boutique “Re-arts” and the bookshop. A place where I absolutely must return! There you can buy accessories created by various artists and artisans, all made from recovered material: bags made by printed PVC sheets, rubber from tyres, t-shirts and shopping bags with a graphic by jailbirds, necklaces and belts made with clothes waste, seats, rings and brooches created from legos and computer keys. And what about the book selection… very rich and interesting!

• La mostra esterna dell’associazione Dinamo Energia Creativa “La casa-bici”. Tante installazioni divertenti e bizzarre create che hanno la bici come elemento costante, materiale o semplicemente ispiratore.
The external show “The Home-Bike” by the association Dinamo Energia Creativa. Many funny and bizarre artworks, where bike is the constant element, the material or simply the inspiration.

• La mostra fotografica e video “I love Bio. Costruire consapevolmente” sulla bioedilizia realizzata recentemente.
The photo and video show “I love Organic. Conscious Building”about the green way to build, especially in the local area.

• Infine, l’esposizione “Design Italiano per la sostenibilità”. Oggetti d’uso visti e nuovi creati riciclando materiali come alluminio, vetro, carta, plastica o creati per il risparmio energetico, come elettrodomestici a basso consumo, lampade a LED, mezzi di trasporto elettrici… La cosa più bella di questo spazio dedicato al design è la parete che ospita i più innovativi materiali che utilizzano materie da recupero pre e post-consumo. Puoi avvicinarti, toccarli, capire come sono fatti e immaginarne il loro utilizzo.
At last we visited the exposition “Italian Design for Sustainability”. New and old design objects, created for recycling materials like aluminium, glass, paper, plastic or created for saving energy like white goods with low consumes, LED lamps, electrical vehicles… The best thing in this place dedicated to design is a wall where you can find all kinds of innovative materials from recycle pre and post-consume. You can approach and touch them, understanding how they are made and imagine a new use.

Insomma, in poco tempo e piccoli spazi abbiamo avuto modo di vedere come arte, fotografia, design e architettura sono settori che si stanno sempre più orientando verso la sostenibilità ambientale. Una bella sfida per quel mondo produttivo incapace di rivedere i propri standard ormai obsoleti ed inquinanti, una bella avventura nel trasformare quanto abbiamo creato di brutto e dannoso in qualcosa di gradevole e utile anche al solo “farci riflettere”.
Well, in a short time and a little space, we had the possibility to see that art, photography, design and architecture are fields that are more and more going toward environmental sustainability. A good challenge for that industries which aren’t able to review their old and polluting standards. A good adventure in transforming what we created of bad and harmful in something agreeable and useful, even for the simple ‘thinking’.

Per la mia mente che ha sete di stimoli per la creatività, è stata davvero una scoperta. Per il mio animo, alla ricerca di incoraggiamento nel fare ogni giorno del mio meglio, è stata una rappacificazione.
Ovviamente oltre agli stimoli positivi ed incoraggianti ho trovato punti deboli sui quali una così grande manifestazione dovrebbe lavorare per le prossime edizioni. Di questo ne parlavamo io e Irish al ritorno a casa e di questo parlerò qui sul blog a conclusione dell’evento, così per rifletterci sopra ed eventualmente dare suggerimenti per chi il prossimo anno si troverà a rinnovare il suo impegno all’interno dell’organizzazione.
For my mind, thirsty of spurs for creativity, it was really a discovering. For my soul, searching for encouragements in doing everyday my best, it was a pacification.
Of course behind the stimuli and encouragements I found some weak points on which the organisation of a so great event will have to work for next editions. As we came back home, Irish and me, we talked about these, but I’ll tell to you on the blog when the event will end, so to reflect about it and possibly give suggestions to the people involved in the new arrangement.

L’entusiasmo è come la fiamma di una candela… / The enthusiasm is like a candle flame (AmbienteFestival ‘09)

… basta un soffio per spegnerla!
Mi è accaduto proprio ieri, mentre mi accingevo a scrivere il nuovo post su quello che accadrà a Rimini da oggi, 22 ottobre, fino al 2 novembre.
Fino a quel momento ero entusiasta e non vedevo l’ora dell’arrivo di questi giorni, in cui si terrà una lunga kermesse che, durante gli ultimi quattro, si affiancherà ad Ecomondo, la tanto attesa “Fiera Internazionale del Recupero di Materia ed Energia e dello Sviluppo Sostenibile”.
… It takes the time for a blow to be extinguished!
It’s happened to me exactly yesterday, when I was writing a new blog post about what will happen in Rimini by now, 22nd October, until 2nd November.
Until that moment I was enthusiastic and couldn’t wait these upcoming days, during which there will be a long happening. For the last four days, it will be parallel to Ecomondo, the long waited “International Trade Fair of Material & Energy Recovery and Sustainable Development”.

Ambiente festival 2009 (Rimini, 22 ottobre - 2 novembre 2009) è un’iniziativa di divulgazione popolare per diffondere una nuova cultura dell’ambiente più consapevole, incentrata sulla responsabilità diretta di cittadini, imprese, istituzioni e associazioni per uno sviluppo sostenibile ed eco-compatibile. Era proprio quello che ci voleva! Vi ricordate l’anno scorso, quando lamentavo nel mio articolo su Ecomondo proprio il coinvolgimento del grande pubblico? Bene, quest’anno su iniziativa dell’Assessorato alle Politiche Ambientali ed Energetiche del Comune di Rimini e di Rimini Fiera, organizzatrice di Ecomondo, si è arrivati a creare questo grande evento che comprende una miriade di appuntamenti, basta visitare il programma…
Incontri e dibattiti con personalità che si occupano e preoccupano delle problematiche ambientali; attività didattiche e laboratori per bambini ed adulti mirati al risparmio, al riutilizzo ed al riciclo organizzati dalle varie associazioni presenti in ambito locale; mostre sul design della sostenibilità, sulle suggestioni artistiche che evoca l’ambiente, sulla fotografia, sul territorio; spettacoli, spazi dedicati ai libri e alle attività ludiche; poi cinema, in collaborazione con il festival Cinemambiente di Torino; e infine mercato etico con l’apertura del consueto appuntamento autunnale di Ecomia.
It’s just the right thing! Do you remember, last year, when, in a post of mine about Ecomondo, I lamented the lack of involvement of the great public? Well, this year, on initiative of the Environment and Energy Council and Rimini Fair, that organizes Ecomondo, it was created this great event, which includes a lot of dates. Give a look to the agenda…
There will be meetings and debates with personalities who worry and care about environment; educational activities and laboratories for children and adults addressed to save money, reuse and recycle, organised by various local associations; exhibitions on sustainable design, art inspired by nature, photography and local environment; shows, spaces dedicated to books and recreation; then cinema, in collaboration with Cinemambiente, the environment film festival of Turin; and at last the ethical market, with the opening of the usual autumnal Ecomia.

Questo e molto altro ancora ravviverà la città di Rimini in questi giorni.
Per me sarebbe il non plus ultra, forse il periodo più bello dell’anno. Non a caso avevo scelto la coda di questi avvenimenti per la mia prima settimana a zero rifiuti.
These and even more things will animate Rimini city on these days.
For me it would be the ne plus ultra, perhaps the best time in the year. For this exact reason I chose the end of these events for my first zero waste week.

Eppure mi è arrivata voce di qualcosa che ha spento un po’ il mio entusiasmo.
Parallelamente a questa grande festa ci sarà una contro-manifestazione che prenderà il nome di LiberoAmbiente. C’è qualcuno che preferisce non festeggiare, un gruppo di cittadini che, pur avendo a cuore le tematiche ambientali, si sentono esclusi da associazioni, enti ed istituzioni coinvolte in questo grande evento perché non ascoltati nella loro esposizione di serie problematiche ambientali che minacciano la città: dal problema dell’inquinamento del mare, al problema dei rifiuti che non vede ancora una soluzione decisiva e soprattutto sostenibile per la salute dei cittadini.
Sono persone che, provenendo da varie associazioni che si occupano della tutela ambientale nella città, si sono unite per farsi sentire nei prossimi giorni durante lo svolgimento di AmbienteFestival, intavolando conferenze e organizzando punti informativi alternativi per i cittadini che vogliano prendere coscienza di questi problemi.
But I heard rumours about something that extinguished my enthusiasm.
At the same time of this great festival there will be an opposite festival which will be called LiberoAmbiente. Someone doesn’t prefer to celebrate. They are citizens who – even having care about environment – feel excluded from associations, companies and institutions involved in this great event. They affirm their voice hasn’t been heard about serious problems which threaten the city: from the pollution of the sea, to the waste problem, still unsolved despite citizen’s health.
They are people who – coming from different organizations who care about local environment – join to make their voice heard on the next days, during the festival. They will have conferences and organize info points for citizens who are interested in these problems.

Come spiegare la mia immediata reazione? Quasi quella di un bambino a cui si scioglie il ghiacciolo… Sono molto combattuta, è l’unica cosa che mi sento di dire.
Da una parte ero così felice che una città come Rimini, spesso al centro di notizie frivole o di attenzione semplicemente turistica, stavolta fosse la protagonista di un evento che cambia il punto di vista dei cittadini e degli stessi turisti. Un evento forse destinato a diventare un esempio per tutta l’Italia di quanto le tematiche ambientali possano essere al centro della nostra vita di tutti i giorni, dell’economia, della società e persino del divertimento!
Mentre l’altra faccia della medaglia mi mostra un triste aspetto della città, una città che è stata spesso oggetto di speculazioni e di incuria da parte di tutti e che ora soffre per la mancanza di azioni decisive che pongano fine a questo stato.
Non mi sento di stare da una parte o dall’altra… so solo che è giusto ascoltare (e dare risposte) anche a queste voci, ma che non è giusto cercare di oscurare il lato festoso della manifestazione più grande. Resto sempre convinta del fatto che è sempre meglio trasferire un messaggio positivo alla gente, soprattutto quella che di ambiente spesso non vuole sentir parlare. Urlare di problemi gravi per la propria città, per farsi sentire va bene, a costo, però, di non coprire le voci di chi cerca nel proprio piccolo di fare qualcosa per l’ambiente in maniera più silenziosa e col sorriso sul volto.
Siamo tutti nella stessa barca e vogliamo il bene della città, vogliamo tutti un ambiente salubre e possibilmente gradevole per noi e i nostri figli, ma bisogna dare spazio a tutti, cercare di mediare, capire dove si sbaglia ed essere soprattutto propositivi!
How to explain my immediate reactions? Almost that one of a kid whose icicle melts… I’m very torn, it is the only thing I can say.
On one hand I was so happy that a city like Rimini, often at the centre of frivolous news or tourism attention, this time was the protagonist of an event which can change the perspective of citizens and of the same tourists. It could be an event maybe destined to be an example for all Italy: it’s about how the environmental themes could interest our daily life, our economy, society and amusement!
But the on the other hand I see a sad aspect of the city. A city which was often the object of speculation and negligence by everybody and now suffers for the lack of decisive actions that can put an end to this state of things.
I don’t want to support one part despite the other… I only know that it’s worth to listen (and answer) to these voices, but it’s also wrong trying to boycott the happy face of the bigger event.
I’m firmly convinced that it’s better to transmit a positive message to people, especially to those who usually want to hear nothing about environment. To shout about serious problems of the city in order to be heard is good but at the cost to not cover the voice of those ones who try to do something for environment in their own small way, and with the smile on their face.
We all stand together, we all need the best for our city, we all want to live in a healthier and pleasant place also for the next generations, but we must give all the same chances, we must mediate, trying to understand where mistakes are and being more purposeful.

Tutto questo mi tange da vicino in questi giorni, perché con la piccola-grande associazione di cui ormai faccio parte, sono stata e sarò coinvolta in laboratori tesi al recupero e al riciclo e nel mercatino solidale dell’usato che si terranno all’interno di AmbienteFestival. È un piccolo contributo a chi lontano da noi soffre ancora di più i problemi ambientali e un altrettanto piccolo contributo locale, insieme ad altri cittadini, a fare la propria parte nell’evitare lo spreco di risorse e i rifiuti. Credo che sia importante anche questo.
All this really affects me, these days, because I’m involved in person with the little but great association of Mani Tese in laboratories for reuse and recycle, in the context of AmbienteFestival. It’s a little contribution to people who, far from here, suffer much more environmental troubles and I’s a little local contribution, together with other citizens, to make our little part in avoiding waste of resources. I believe that even this thing is important the same.

Visitando Ecomondo per la prima volta / Visiting Ecomondo for my very first time

Un lungo resoconto che la mia carissima amica blogger 'MadreTerra' ha voluto pubblicare integralmente sul suo blog sempre ricco di idee 'verdi', aggiornato sulle notizie che riguardano l'ambiente. As promised, here there's a brief about my first visit to Ecomondo.
A long report that my dear friend blogger 'MadreTerra' wanted to publish on her blog always full of 'green' ideas, updated on news concerning the environment. I want to thank the author that hosted my post, with her great ecological sensitivity that surprises me every day with her work. Well done!

Sabato 8 novembre si è concluso Ecomondo, 12° Fiera Internazionale del Recupero di Materia ed Energia e dello Sviluppo Sostenibile, in contemporanea con Key Energy, Fiera internazionale per l’Energia e la Mobilità Sostenibile, il Clima e le Risorse per un Nuovo Sviluppo.
Ci sono stati quasi 65.000 visitatori totali, il 12% in più rispetto allo scorso anno, un trend che è costantemente in aumento. Oltre 1000 aziende hanno esposto i loro prodotti e servizi dedicati all’ambiente, c’è stata anche una massiccia presenza dei media e questo fa sperare bene.

L’augurio che faccio ad Ecomondo, quest’evento che per quattro giorni ha letteralmente stravolto la città di Rimini, è che in futuro diventi un evento nazionale sempre più grande, coinvolgendo allo stesso modo aziende, autorità e cittadini, affinché si possa collaborare insieme per la conservazione e il rispetto di questo unico mondo in cui viviamo.

Saturday, 8 November, Ecomondo, the 12th International Trade Fair of Material & Energy Recovery and Sustainable Developement, in contemporary with Key Energy, International Trade Fair for Energy and Sustainable Mobility, Climate and Resources for New Development, ended. There were nearly 65,000 total visitors, 12% more than the last year, a trend that is steadily increasing. More than 1,000 companies exhibited their products and services dedicated to the environment, there was a massive media presence and I hope this is good.

During the four days many topics were discussed: waste and packaging complete cycle, rehabilitation of polluted areas, water cycle and analysis of integrated systems of water control, renewable energy and efficiency, energy markets, hydrogen and sustainable mobility, air quality, risk and environmental damage, services for environment, national and international responsibility for protecting the environment. In short, an appointment rather than single, addressed primarily to professionals and businesses from Europe and Many countries around the world.

Certainly many simple ‘curious’ visited this international exhibition too. For non-experts in the field a vast panorama of technologies has first deployed in their eyes. Noting those things, you can be very hopeful that, in all industrial areas, a decisive change in positive, regarding attention to environmental issues, will happen very soon.

Obviously in a single day, the last, it was difficult to me visiting all stands, especially because many stands were emptied with before the closure. The fair is huge (about 85,000 square meters) and this year has occupied all pavilions, 16 available in all. Each pavilion, hosted in diverse sections devoted to specific ‘Special projects’, was interspersed by parking areas and very interesting exhibitions, especially for the curious.

Beginning from the latter, I can admit, for my professional way to see things, to have been attracted mainly by the hall and many corners of the pavilions dedicated to ‘Eco Fatto’, an overview on manufacturers and designers of recycling, where you can admire masterpieces of industrial design and manufactured goods, made with more unthinkable materials: chaise longue, desks, chairs and library wavy board made, by ‘Idee di cartone’, the aluminium benches, or the pans, the ‘Ricicletta’ in 100% recycled aluminium, the modern tire bags realized by designer Heidi, recycled glass sculptures and additions furnishing, with candles in glass and wax, with armchairs, walkways, playgrounds and off made by recycled plastic, to comfortable and colourful ottomans always made by inner tubes ... In short, there’s a well of new materials and creative ideas. I am naturally tempted to ask myself: “Who said that recycled objects are bad?”

Starting from the west entrance of the fair I were able coming into the ‘Save!’ exposition. I was immediately amazed at the sight of huge machinery and trucks dedicated to waste recovery and cleaning. I add that, seeing the huge amount of these technologies, I had the impression that we are still very far away from the idea of little compaction robot that recently made us laughing and reflecting to the cinema. Waste is something very cumbersome and in some cases very heavy ... from our home garbage is very difficult to realize it and here you cannot help but notice!

Walking in zigzag between corridors, you continue entering into local and international reality, having a more deep knowledge of companies that provide environmental services: for example, I can cite regional Hera, which has set up a huge container stand, as “Hera House”, an interesting virtual corridor, set for calculate your household consumes.
It was also interesting to hear some examples of ‘ecological islands’ furniture, super-equipped for the collection of hazardous and bulky waste such as WEEE (electrical and electronic equipment waste). A waste to which Ecomondo has dedicated a series of special conferences, titled “WEEE system”, to know and discuss new rules on their disposal.
Each service company not only had showcase of their technologies, but has also provided data, information, and everything can serve to experts in the field and not, for better moving on disposal of waste.

In the main exhibition, to give a value to the “Waste as resource”, it was given space to technologies for the recovery of various types of waste: in particular scrap metal (with the ‘MetalEco’project), the inert construction and demolition (the ‘Inter Tech’ project), rubber and pneumatic equipment (the ‘Just Rubber’ project), waste derived from computing products (‘Ri3, Regenerate, Reload, Reuse’ project), and WEEE. But there have been numerous stand on organic waste, with demonstrations on industrial and household composting, wood, with the exhibition of recycled wood artefacts, paper and cardboard, exhausted oils and glass. The plastic has not been ruled out, indeed one of the few areas in which you could see live how some systems separation mechanics, currently on the market, work, especially for those who are incredulous about how the recycling is after collection.
It was also curious to see how, in almost all the stands, waste is transformed into perfectly usable materials, with the exposure of samples by all sorts, from copper extracted from cables and reduced into powder, to the various types of plastic granules.

Other large exhibition spaces (interesting for the professionals, somewhat less for the curious) have been dedicated to businesses that reclaimed territories and waste water (in-depth projects ‘Reclaim Expo’ and ‘Blue Gold’) that exposed available technologies and facilities, types of assistance, rehabilitation techniques, used products.
No less noteworthy but still facing the industry, were stands of exhibitors on renewable energies such as solar, photovoltaic, wind, biogas and bio fuel.

Among the major pavilions, some rooms have hosted the communication exhibitions on ‘Sustainable Cities’, interesting paths in private architecture and urban design thought with sustainability criteria, recovery and energy saving. Looking at the exhibition panels, masterfully made with cardboard and pallets from recovery, you had the impression of being significantly at the cutting edge of design and technology, but still far from the time when these architectures will be easily accessible to every type of citizen.

There was also a way to the island location of ‘Sustainable Purchases’. A section I imagined wider, but it offered a good number sold greener products, including solar gadget, office tools made of recycled or compostable material, cleaning and hygiene greener products, accessories and clothes from Fair Trade, themed books and toys by natural materials.

I must include the large space devoted to Conip (National Plastic Packaging Consortium) and Conai (National Packaging Consortium), the last with its wide range of areas, Cial (aluminium), Comieco (paper), Rilegno (wood), Corepla (plastic), Coreve (glass) and the National Steel Consortium. Together with Tetrapak Italy – who finally showed the recycling products by carton coupled to plastic aluminium packaging, ‘Carta Frutta ®’ and ‘Ecoallene ®’ – all have made available numerous paper advertising campaigns that unfortunately at the end of the fair, were abandoned, becoming waste itself. They could be collected and redistributed to local schools, at best and I hope that at least they have been recycled!

Really this edition, which has not overlooked any detail and every minimum area related to environment, could in turn generate countless other events in order to deepen knowledge in every single part.
I must admit, though, that I hadn’t a good impression seeing the general flee of the exhibitors as early as the first Saturday afternoon, when common people, who normally work outside the context of the sectors concerned, could deepen their knowledge of a world in which they are still bound by and still treated as if they were not a key component for the correct cycle of materials.
I would have liked that the fair had lasted until Sunday, involving both schools (for which there were numerous laboratories), the ‘curious’ visitors, perhaps viewers even more important than political and TV show authorities, here invited. I would have liked to talk directly with the experts in the field and not to turn between the empty benches for scraping written information, and I would have liked to see evolving Ecomondo in the years, involving many more people and organizations.
I wish to Ecomondo – this event that for four days literally upset the city of Rimini – that in the future it will become a national event ever larger, involving at the same time companies, authorities and citizens, so that we can work together for preservation and respect of this unique world in which we live.

Da ricordare… / To remember…

Dall’inizio del mese, si sono susseguiti velocemente eventi che bisogna assolutamente “fotografare” e citare purtroppo qui tutti insieme, visto che il tempo è sempre poco.
Since the beginning of the month, some events have quickly happened that had to be absolutely ‘photographed’ and mentioned unfortunately all together here, because time is always short.

Cominciamo dall’ultimo.
We start from the last one.


Ieri è stato un giorno molto particolare, il mio 36° compleanno, e allo stesso tempo, il primo giorno di presidenza di Barack Obama negli Stati Uniti d’America.
Una data storica. Ci sono stati festeggiamenti in tutto il mondo, sintomo che qualcosa sta cambiando.
Mi ha elettrizzato vedere che la gente sta cambiando il proprio modo di pensare in rapporto alla solidarietà tra i popoli, alla giustizia, allo sfruttamento delle risorse del pianeta, all’attenzione nei confronti dell’ambiente.
Spero che questo cambiamento possa contagiare tutti i paesi del mondo, fino ad arrivare qui in Italia, dove siamo troppo assopiti e rassegnati al peggio.
Yesterday was a very special day, my 36th birthday, and at same time, the first day of presidency of Barack Obama in the United States of America.
A historic day. There were celebrations all over the world, symptom that something is changing.
I was thrilled to see that people are changing their way of thinking in relation to solidarity among peoples, to justice, to exploitation of resources of the planet and to attention towards environment.
I hope that this change could spread to every country in the world, until getting here in Italy, where we are too sleepy and resigned to worse.

La gioia e la speranza sono stati così il primo regalo ricevuto attraverso il passaparola nella rete.
Il resto della giornata è stato un susseguirsi di sorrisi, auguri, commenti positivi… come vorrei che tutti i giorni fossero così!
La gioia poi è stata protratta dal bellissimo regalo ‘verde’ del mio compagno, che ormai conosce bene e condivide il mio amore per la natura: un regalo verde nel vero senso del termine, una magnifica pianta di orchidee bianche e fucsia nel loro vaso di coccio, decorata con nastri e tulle che sicuramente potrò riutilizzare.
Contagiata dalla voglia di fare festa ho preparato dei biscotti. La serata poi si è conclusa in una cenetta fuori casa in una piccola deliziosa osteria. Così abbiamo brindato a questa giornata da ricordare.
Joy and hope have been the first gifts received by the word exchange on the web.
The rest of the day was a succession of smiles, greetings, positive comments ... I wish that every day could be this way!
Happiness was then extended by the beautiful ‘green’ gift of my companion, who now understands and shares my love for nature: a green gift in the true sense of the term, a magnificent fuchsia and white orchids plant in its earthenware vase decorated with ribbons and veil that certainly I can reuse.
Inspired by the desire to do holiday I made biscuits. Then the evening ended in a dinner outside in a small delicious inn. So we toasted to this day to remember.


Tornando indietro nella settimana ci sono altre cose degne di nota.
Returning back this week there were other things worth noting.


Lunedì si viene a sapere di una cosa nuova e strabiliante: la raccolta differenziata domiciliare viene estesa ai distretti del lungomare di Rimini!!! Presto verremo corredati di un kit per la differenziazione dei rifiuti, questo per raggiungere l’obiettivo del 40% nel nuovo anno (e speriamo di superarlo!).
Last Monday we learned something new and amazing: the doorstep recycling collection is extended to the waterfront districts of Rimini! Soon we will have a kit for waste differentiation, to achieve the recycling objective by 40% in the new year (and we hope to surpass it!).


Martedì scorso siamo stati alla proiezione di un bellissimo film documentario, “The Planet”, in programma per l’evento “Ecomondo in città”. In pochi abbiamo assistito ad un capolavoro che ha vinto lo scorso festival di Torino sul cinema dedicato all’ambiente. Una tempesta di immagini sapientemente montate su un sottofondo musicale particolare, creato ad hoc, alternata da interventi di numerosi personaggi nel mondo scientifico e letterario tra cui il noto Lester Brown. Ottimo spunto di riflessione, ma allo stesso invito al mobilitarsi per fermare lo stillicidio su questo nostro unico Pianeta.
Last Tuesday we were at the projection of a beautiful documentary movie, “The Planet”, scheduled for the event “Ecomondo in town”. In short, we have witnessed a masterpiece that won last Torino movie festival dedicated to environment. A storm of images cleverly mounted on a special music, created ad hoc, alternating speeches by many important scientific and literary people in the world including the notorious Lester Brown. An excellent opportunity to reflect, but at the same a call to mobilize to stop the dripping of this our single Planet.

Ancora prima, nel weekend sono stata presa dalla voglia di fare delle cose “in casa”.
Così ho preparato l’impasto per l’infornata di biscotti con scaglie di cioccolata, che ho offerto ieri.
Mi sono anche dedicata ad un lavoretto che era nella mia mente da tempo: due candele profumate, riutilizzando la cera di una vecchia candela che ormai aveva lo stoppino consumato.
Sciolta la cera in un pentolino – che d’ora in poi utilizzerò solo per questo scopo – ho mescolato qualche goccia di olio essenziale di melissa, comprato tempo fa, e ho versato la cera in due contenitori di vetro precedentemente preparati con un nuovo stoppino, un bicchiere scheggiato e un recipiente di salsa di pomodoro. Il bicchiere resta a complemento della candela, invece la bottiglia è stata rotta in un involucro di carta – e poi adeguatamente riciclata – per lasciare libero il cero.
Even before the weekend I have been taken by the desire to do something homemade.
So I prepared the dough for biscuits with flakes chocolate, which I offered yesterday.
I also dedicated to a work that was in my mind for some time: two scented candles, reusing the old wax of candle which wick had been consumed.
Melted wax in a pan – which now is used only do this –, I mixed a few drops of essential oil of Melissa I bought time ago, and then I paid the wax in two glass containers, previously prepared with a new wick, a chipped glass and a container of tomato sauce. The glass remains to complement candle instead the bottle was broken in a paper cabinet - and then properly recycled - to leave the candle.

Durante lo stesso weekend abbiamo inaugurato la compostiera! Ubicata in giardino nel luogo deciso, abbiamo preparato sul fondo uno strato di rami e foglie secche, sovrapponendo poi del terriccio, della carta marrone tagliata a pezzi e il primo strato di scarto di cucina umido, tra cui la zucca di Halloween fatta a piccoli pezzi. Così abbiamo cominciato la nostra avventura nel mondo del compostaggio domestico. Prossimamente ne racconterò i progressi.
During the same weekend we started to composting! Located in the garden place we decided, we prepared a bottom layer of branches and dry leaves, then we superimposed soil, brown paper cut into pieces and the first layer of wet kitchen waste, including Halloween pumpkin, made small pieces. So we started our adventure into the world of home composting. Soon I'll tell the progresses.

Aspettiamo così il sabato per andare a visitare Ecomondo. Intanto oggi anche il TG 1 ne ha parlato… allora vuol dire che qualcosa davvero sta cambiando!
So we expect to go on Saturday to visit Ecomondo. Meanwhile today even the TV-journal of RAI 1 has spoken about the fair... then it means that something is really changing!

Così, tra qualche giorno, questa prima settimana di Novembre, terminerà in un turbine emozionale, portandosi dietro ricordi e alimentando nuove speranze…
Thus, in a few days, this first week of November will end in a emotional turbine, bringing back memories and nurturing new hopes...

Fra pochissimi giorni si apre a Rimini ECOMONDO, la 12° Fiera internazionale del Recupero di Materia ed Energia e dello Sviluppo Sostenibile.

Per la prima volta visiterò l’esposizione che è importantissima non solo per le aziende interessate alla sostenibilità ambientale, ma anche per le persone che vogliono capire meglio come si sta muovendo il mondo dell’industria ecologica.
Non a caso il programma porta tra le parole chiave la frase “Verso la cultura della responsabilità tra ambiente, tecnica ed etica”.
For the first time I’m visiting the exhibition which is important not only for companies interested in environmental sustainability, but also for people who want to better understand how the world of ecological industry is moving.
In fact, the program brings the keyword phrase ‘Towards the culture of responsibility between the environment, technical development and ethic’.


È difficile poter riassumere tutto il ‘mondo’ di informazione e di comunicazione che si svilupperà all’interno della fiera di Rimini, ma cercherò di elencare brevemente i temi che saranno

Ci sarà una sala dedicata agli ‘Acquisti Sostenibili’ dove, attraverso dei workshop, verranno presentate esperienze unitamente a prodotti e obiettivi, come anche le norme e le certificazioni. Sarà possibile acquistare e ordinare prodotti ecologici in un apposito ‘Eco-Store’ realizzato per dare la possibilità al consumatore di familiarizzare con i nuovi materiali e gli stessi prodotti.
Ci saranno iniziative didattiche, rappresentazioni teatrali, ed ‘eco-cabaret’.
There will be a room dedicated to ‘Sustainable Shopping’ where, through the workshops, experiences will be presented along with products and tasks, as well as standards and certifications. You can buy and order green products in a special ‘Eco-Store’ designed to give the opportunity to familiarize consumers with new materials and same products.
There will be educational initiatives, theatres, and ‘eco-cabaret’.
