Non solo per l'acqua!!! / Not only for water!!!

E invece no. Capito?
Riflettete, gente...
E andate a votare!

Do you like to read "We give you pure and simply water..."???
I do not.
At best, they could write, "distribute". But no. Got it?
Water belongs to everyone!
Warning, under our eyes it is happening what only a few want!
This makes you realize how natural resources, even the simplest are becoming commodities.
Think, people...
And vote!
Not just for water but for all that would endanger our future, our Earth, the future of our children, equality and freedom.

Sono ancora viva! / I’m still alive!

Be quiet, please, I’m not dead, as someone could think! ;)
I’m still alive, behind the screen, over this keyboard. And I still used to write. The only difference is that I’m not writing for Dandaworld blog anymore but for my career.

Well, if you still don’t understand, I’m searching for a new job.
Perhaps you did experiment yourself this difficult moment. You have to wait a long and in my case I had some job interviews and even if they went well, jobs didn’t totally work for me.
And I feel like in every situation there is something wrong, some details that make my plans fall.

You must have more patience, tenacity, willpower. Sometimes you think that the world is against you.
But you have to understand that it’s YOU to make things go better.
So, do you understand why I’m not writing for my blog?
Looking for a job is a job itself, and it is even more nerve racking than a job, sat at the desk with the awareness of never being fired…

Ok, I don’t want to make you worry. Be sure that I’m doing my best and sometimes I think of you, I read your blog posts or I take note about some topics I want to discuss with you.

Anyway this season is full of things to do, for the job research and other causes. I can list here some of them…

Forse ho convinto qualcuno a iniziare a compostare!
With Mani Tese I’m making a tour with the stuff I use to show for the compost laboratories. I show how to make compost and even if it doesn’t catch people’s attention, it is good for the few interested people. Maybe I did convince someone to make compost!

Irish and me are participating to new stands in the square of the quarter were I live. With the Ippocampo association we are collecting new materials for preserving the memories. The place where I live isn’t only a nice seaside but an area of a live city that never stops changing.

For both the associations, so as for volunteering, I’m producing some graphic materials in order to promote and show contents… a way to be training!

I’m growing a unusual plan for my career, perhaps autonomously…

At home there are and there will be some perturbations: first of all the past week with my mother, a thing that would deserve a blog post apart, when I’ll have the time to write about; then the living room is changing its look…

I was here and took part of a very interesting workshop that changed my point of view on the printing world. And even this topic is a chapter apart.

At last, in my spare time I’m baking my bread (I experimented also the durum wheat flour); I learned to make the “focaccia pugliese” (thanks to my mother) and with the surplus of fruit and vegetables we bought to the local exchange group we made jams and conserves, as you can notice in the picture above.

Bene, ora vi sentite meno in pensiero per me? ;)
So, are you less worried for me now? ;)

We were speaking of... petrol stations...
Did you notice some advertising signs near some of these?

Naaaa! Non ci posso credere!
Ma perché? L'automobilista è una specie in estinzione?
[sign says: "Reserve for protected drivers"]
Nooo! I can't believe! Why? Is the driver a species in extinction?

Siete per caso ancora in viaggio per tornare dalle vacanze? Oppure avete sperimentato l'ebbrezza di fare in bicicletta qualche strada senza pista ciclabile? Avete notato come guidano certi?
Are you still driving to go back home fom holidays? Or did you face the exciting experience of driving a bike on a road without a bicycle lane? Did you see how most of motorists drive? What's more their way of driving is dangerous and polluting!

Io, avessi il potere, 'sti automobilisti qua li metterei in gabbia, altroché.
Comunicatori? Pubblicitari? Che cosa vi frulla in mente?
If I had the power to do it I'll absolutely cage them!
To you, communicators and copywriters... what is in your head?

about bikes and new laws to respect cycling we will speak soon!!!

Un'idea per i parchi di Rimini / An idea for the parks of Rimini

It is almost past one year since I moved here in Rimini.
The quality of my life has changed, certainly for the better.
A more peaceful life than that one in the capital, where everything had to be done in haste, where distances were too long and not enough time ever, where you had to face high costs for everything, where often simple rules of respect among people lack... and towards environment, at the same way.
And Rimini is the same as a large city in growth, with all positive and negative results, but it's certainly still possible rediscover your dimensions, here in a much more human fit.
This city is often associated to the Italian capital city of entertainment, discotheques, family vacations at the seaside, topic parks ... and this rainbow appears in all its varieties especially in summer, with some impatience, however, by both residents and environment.
But during other seasons, when all this fades, the city emerges on its most beautiful and interesting sides, I think.
Those who come to the sea often not even know the real city, that with the squares and medieval buildings, with fabulous remains of Roman civilization, with narrow streets, inns, shops, multicoloured homes, murals...
They don’t know that there are many beautiful parks where you can run, go by bike, bring your dog, relax reading a book.
And to the parks of Rimini an informal competition was devoted from the Councilor of Environmental and Energy Policy in order to redraw the signs and make them ‘more attractive and less formal’ than usual.
Well, I have a huge passion for the environment and graphics, so I couldn’t miss the opportunity to offer my idea to the city of Rimini. Actually, from the first moment I set foot in this city, I thought that my presence here would only make benefits, because a beautiful city, already stressed by summer tourism, doesn’t longer need a inhabitant which only would uses the resources without help make it better. I date to do so in the short time available and ...
Here is the proposal that I presented, along with that of another participating in the blog Parlandone. It would be nice to collect on that page your comments, your criticisms and ideas for possibly improve the look! We’ll wait for you!

Leggere il packaging/Reading packaging #1b

Continuiamo a parlare di simboli “di smaltimento”
Let’s go on referring to symbols “about disposal”

"The Green Dot" (or "Der Grüne Punkt") (http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Il_Punto_Verde).
It is a dot that consists of two arrows that run, often represented in one or more colors (the two arrows are generally of two different green).
It seems to say that the packaging is recyclable but it is not true. How many of you knew it?
It also deceived me and then I learned the truth: it is a symbol designed for a waste collection and disposal system in Germany. According to the local law, this system provides a tax for the participating companies, which pay the costs of collection, sorting and recycling of packaging to the DSD (Duales System Deutshland).
This system was then extended to Member States, through the European organisation Pro Europe (Packaging Recovery Organisation Europe), with the authorization to use the mark. So we find this on many products, whether here in Italy. This means that packages bearing this mark are produced by companies which are members of the national organisation, belonging to Pro Europe system, for which they pay the costs of recovery and recycling.
These companies, therefore, take the load environmental costs, but not provide more disposal informationfor the consumers unless the Green Point on the packaging is accompanied by other recycling symbol or a specification of the material. In Italy CONAI is the organisation dealing in recovery of packaging.
So, those packages bearing this mark only, aren’t really recyclable! So be careful when the material of objects is not indicated, you risk compromising the recycling process!

“Cycle of Mobius” (recycling triangle with arrows that are chasing).
This certainly has an international meaning that regards recycling. We often find it with a number placed at the centre or acronyms at the bottom, which specify the type of material. When it is not accompanied by anything means only that the material is recyclable. When it is accompanied by a percentage means that the material is recycled and the percentage is used to signify the amount of recycled material. The numbers and acronyms will be listed in forthcoming blogposts about materials
.

The “KCA-Logo”(bin with the cross above)
It is an indication that the package contains hazardous substances for the environment and therefore it can’t be thrown into the black bins but must be thrown in appropriate waste bins or given to a centre for special waste. It can cover batteries, chargers, and packaging of products as chemical pesticides, solvents and paints.
Despite the symbol relates to several contents it is all effective on the disposal of packaging itself, according to local laws.

At the end of this first series I want to add a note that I can’t consider hardly negligible: the existing legislation currently says that environmental labelling of packaging is not mandatory but
voluntary! Nowadays, with all these problems related to the environment, I don’t understand why…
I thank the CONAI for providing information drawn up by the Italian Packaging, through its website. I hope that sooner or later they’ll draft a guide for consumers too!

Do you think recycling is a problem?
For most of the people, yes it is. Especially for the not so young, and even the lazy, it is difficult to understand what are things that can be recycled or not and even things that may be harmful to the environment if sent to the landfill.
There is a wide variety of materials and equally wide communication ways, so not only symbols on the packaging often don’t help but also they confuse the more careful consumers too. Sometimes I remain in doubt myself.

Therefore, starting from this with a series of blogposts, I decided to clarify – including to myself – the graphical elements printed on the various casings (packaging). I’ll use my knowledge in graphic design and my personal effort, searching in the specific fields. Be advised, however, that many of these symbols are valid only in our country (Italy), therefore foreign readers would consult sources concerning the packaging in their nation.

I’ll start from the generic symbolism that may cover products of various kind, then I’ll consider symbols concerning particular products and at last I’ll talk deeply about the various materials that make up the packaging and the graphic codes in order to identify the right way to dispose them.

Let’s start first from the more common symbols “about disposal”, simplifying graphics:

Omino + Cestino o Bidone
Man + Bin
It is often represented not always by the same pictogram, but all symbols have the same meaning – often written in words – which is “do not leave in environment after use”. This kind of symbol has no meaning closely connected with the recycling. Some companies, however, intelligently thought to use the same symbol to specify in what kind of recycling bin you can throw away. Here below, you can find some examples. I hope that sooner or later this type of communication will become more widespread.
