"L'estate sta finendo" said an old song by Righeira... seems like I have a bit of melancholy in my heart!
This summer is to recall, for the sun and... the solar energy too...
Did you notice some beaches, along all Italy, are adopting solar panels?

This is a beach establishment in Margherita di Savoia (BA). It was recently rebuilt. The owners well thought to use solar heat to warm the water of showers!

And if you are driving on the motorways, during these days, look at the petrol stations! Do you notice something strange?

Pannelli fotovoltaici sulle tettoie dei parcheggi!!! Evviva!!!
Photovoltaic panels over the roof of car parks!!! Hurray!!!

I’m rocking at the sound of a wind chime and at the caress of the air that tends to refresh in a hot afternoon of the second half of August. I’m in my native land, back for several days, as every year, looking for familiar snuggles and friendly smiles, but looking for novelties too.
So I hope to find ever something new or local people involved in something different and good for the town. As I leave, however I often remain puzzled, with a mixed feeling of unhappiness and resignation, like in a tormented dream where you want to see a fine end but you can’t know because you are waked up by something.

In an almost surreal atmosphere, I walked on these stone streets, trying to catch by my eyes any detail, like those in old fashioned postcards, observing the few new things and noting a certain love for the past. The town is pointed with little yards for restructuring buildings. Lots of shops signs are left as they looked in old times. Streets and squares are animated by festivals and entertaining events about cultural, musical, gastronomic and even also environmental topics. In this movement some places are involved like the Castle, the market place, the Roman Bridge over the Ofanto river, and they strangely swarm about people in the evenings.
Perhaps hope does not belong only to me!

There are few timid signs of change, such as some new solar panel over the roofs, as the opening of a new distribution point for detergents on tap, as the conferences and the informative material about history and nature, inserted in the agenda of more funny events… a great effort for involving people’s sensibility.

But I see by me people who need to be surrounded by unnecessary stuff, sometimes cumbersome and without significance. All is bought by vanity and glitz.
Though people here had the opportunity to be virtuous by recycling since 2002 (with a doorstep waste collection system), there weren’t any change and as I went to the big recycling bins over the street, scenery is always the same.
Monsters made with mixed waste are popping out the bins of glass, paper and plastic collection.
Everything is then flushing out and the few people with good proposals leave recycling waste on the street and maybe go away! And near and inside the iron bins of the mixed waste, you can find paper, glass and plastics indeed!
Simply it is always collected more frequently… so as eyes cannot see…

So I refuge myself at home in my ridiculous thoughts and my readings which are pacifying me with the world (two titles for this summer: “The Revolution of Details” (Italian only) by M. Coreggia and “The Book of Rubbish Ideas” by T. Smith). Sometimes I wake up from the reading and I find me again in a house full of objects, ornaments, books, dresses, accessories and stuff of various kinds cumulated in a life… Things that now are only reminders and can’t be useful anymore… I’m worried about imagining them in a landfill!
How many mistakes done, how many mistakes with a consequence in the time, how many of them we continue to do again! This happens in my old house as much as in anyone’s… all for the laziness to ask ourself, before buying: “Is this thing really necessary?”

I close my baggage with more much things than at the moment of leaving. It contains olives, dried tomatoes, taralli (typical salt biscuits), rice, pine kernels, all bought in bulk at the local weekly market, a simple cotton t-shirt, bought on a bench, some figs, a homemade jam jar and a book I had as gift and the usual bag of melancholy.

In the air I can hear the sound of fake evening bells, reminding me that my time here is ticked out. I leave again, with the baggage in the hand, a noising music of pizzica and traditional jigs in the ears, familiar smiles and images of never ending vineyard and olive groves, full of magpies in my eyes, the salt of the hot sea on the skin and in my mouth a few of rediscovered tastes.
Maybe is the case to leave unhappiness behind?

To who is thinking to do what he want: warning!!!

Even as regards water...

At the seaside it's better not to waste water, doing shower!

Since a long time, lifeguards and the Municipality of Rimini thought to warn the bathers!

So our seaside resort was equipped with a device that almost all other resorts have. Shower units have particular taps which activate by keeping pulled a chain and stop automatically to flush by leaving it free. So it'll never happen anymore that people leave flushing water after a shower!
