Qualche giorno fa leggevo sul blog di Beppe Grillo un articolo sugli effetti di crollo delle vendite che hanno subìto i distributori automatici di latte crudo e sul contemporaneo strano e clamoroso abbassamento del prezzo del latte di alta qualità ad opera delle grandi marche.
A few days ago I read on Beppe Grillo’s blog an article about the effects of a fall in sales that affected the automatic dispenser for raw milk and about the strange and striking in lowering of price of high-quality milk, contemporary, by the major brands.
Manco a farlo apposta due giorni dopo il mio compagno torna a casa con la solita bottiglia piena di buon latte crudo fresco di giornata, ma con una notizia che mi ha lasciato altrettanto perplessa e sconcertata: il distributore automatico del latte crudo vicino casa – della cui apertura, appena un anno fa, ero stata tanto entusiasta – a fine mese chiuderà.
What a coincidence! Two days after my partner came back home with the usual bottle full of fresh raw milk good of the day, but with news that left me so perplexed and bewildered: the automatic machine of raw milk near our house – of which opening, just a year ago, I was so excited – will end the distribution later this month.
Non posso descrivere l’espressione di grande delusione che mi si è dipinta sul volto.
Ho sempre pensato che il distributore di latte alla spina fosse stato veramente una manna dal cielo e che la gente del posto, non avendo molti negozi a portata di mano, avrebbe apprezzato questo nuovo tipo di vendita del latte, potendolo acquistare fresco ventiquattro ore su ventiquattro!
Ma, dopo questa notizia, nella mia mente, ho subito associato la chiusura del distributore all’articolo letto in precedenza e subito ho pensato di scrivere al produttore per chiedere maggiori spiegazioni.
I cannot describe the expression of great disappointment, painted on my face.
I always thought that the distributor of milk on tap was a truly manna from heaven, and tha local citizens, having not many shops close at hand, would have appreciated this new type of sale for milk, with the chance to buy it fresh 24 hours!
But after this news, in my mind, I immediately associated the closure of the distributor with the article read earlier and immediately I thought to write to the milk producer to ask for more explanation.
Nonostante fosse giorno di festa, il gentilissimo referente dell’azienda mi ha risposto – e questo dimostra come i piccoli produttori ci tengano ad un rapporto di estrema trasparenza nei confronti dei propri clienti – confermando totalmente tutti i miei dubbi a riguardo: le vendite dei distributori sono calate di oltre il 50% e quindi i distributori meno frequentati (almeno tre) verranno chiusi…
Although the bank holiday, the kind representative of that farm replied – and this shows how small producers are very transparent to its clients – fully confirming all my doubts about that: the sales of distributors have declined by over 50% and then the less frequented distributors (at least three) will be closed...
Per capire il perché, dobbiamo risalire allo scorso dicembre, quando alcuni media avevano diffuso cattive notizie, mettendo in dubbio la sanità del latte crudo in vendita presso i distributori automatici, costringendo, così, i produttori ad apporre obbligatoriamente sulle macchine erogatrici un’assurda dicitura ben in evidenza e scritta in rosso: “prodotto da consumarsi dopo bollitura”.
To understand why, we must go back to last December, when some media had spread bad news, calling into question the health of raw milk sold in distributors, so obliging the producers to affix to machines an absurd statement, well highlighted and written in red: “the product must be consumed after boiling.”
Queste notizie sulla pericolosità del latte crudo sono state comunque smentite in sede giudiziaria ma hanno segnato un continuo, inevitabile calo delle vendite, gettando nello sconforto quei piccoli produttori onesti che avevano tentato di vendere il proprio latte genuino avvalendosi della filiera corta.
This news about the dangers of raw milk was also denied in court but have been a continual, inevitable decline in sales, throwing in discomfort those little honest producers who had tried to sell their milk through the short distribution chain.
Se ne deduce che l’opera di divulgazione di queste falsità ha giovato solo ai grandi produttori industriali, che con l’apertura dei distributori si erano visti minacciati. Adesso queste grandi marche hanno oltremodo abbassato il prezzo del latte, pagandolo agli allevatori italiani a prezzi stracciati.
This suggests that the work of dissemination of these falsehoods has benefited only the big manufacturers that had been threatened with the opening of the distributors. Now these big brands have extremely lowered the price of milk, purchasing it from Italian farmers to lowest prices.
Nella mia esperienza personale posso testimoniare che il latte crudo è un prodotto di ottima qualità. Non ho mai avuto problemi, anzi, ammetto che il mio stomaco lo digerisce molto meglio di quello pastorizzato. L’ho bollito raramente, solamente quando, per qualche motivo ho tardato a refrigerarlo, oppure quando ho dovuto conservarlo per qualche giorno in più. Inoltre, il sapore e la consistenza sono notevolmente superiori rispetto al latte commercializzato nei supermercati: con il latte del distributore abbiamo fatto in casa dell’ottimo gelato e yogurt e l’abbiamo utilizzato in cucina per numerose altre ricette. Devo ammettere anche di aver iniziato ad apprezzare lo yogurt solo dopo averlo prodotto in casa con questo latte e questo dimostra come il sapore delle cose genuine è inconfondibile!
In my personal experience I can testify that raw milk is a product of excellent quality. I never had any problems, indeed, I admit that my stomach digests it much better than pasteurized one. I boiled it rarely, only when, for some reason, I refrigerated it too late, or when I had to keep it for a few more days. In addition, the flavour and the consistency are significantly higher than milk sold in supermarkets. With milk distributor, we have the excellent home-made ice cream and yoghurt and we used it in the kitchen for many other recipes. I must also admit that I begun to appreciate the yoghurt only after we made it at home with this milk, and this shows that the genuine taste of things is unmistakable!
Oltre a questo, comprare il latte crudo dal distributore mi ha fatto avvicinare (in termini di distanza e di conoscenza) molto di più al produttore. Chi compra dal distributore può conoscere dove e come viene prodotto il latte, poter dialogare con gli allevatori, scoprire sorprese piacevoli come ad esempio l’attenzione che questi hanno spesso verso l’ambiente e gli animali! Tutte cose che, invece, comprando un prodotto dallo scaffale di un supermercato, non si possono nemmeno conoscere minimamente…
In addition to this, buying raw milk from the distributor has made me closer (in terms of distance and knowledge) to the producer. Who buys from the distributor can know where and how milk is produced, can talk with the farmers, discover pleasant surprises such as the attention that they often have towards environment and animals! All things that, instead, buying a product from a shelf of a supermarket, you may not even know the slightest...
Ed infine c’è l’aspetto non indifferente della riduzione dei rifiuti… la liberazione da montagne di tetrapak (che dicono sia riciclabile ma non si sa come e se venga riciclato) e un riuso costante di bottiglie di vetro lavate e controllate personalmente…
And finally there is the significant appearance of waste reduction ... the liberation from mountains of tetrapack (which, they say, is recyclable but it is not known how and whether it is recycled) and a constant reuse of glass bottles, washed and checked personally...
Vorrei capire cosa c’è nella mente di chi ha dato ascolto a quelle false voci e rinunciato a comprare un prodotto assolutamente più controllato e genuino.
Voglio sapere perché la grande industria debba porsi sempre sul gradino più alto e toglierci il diritto alla scelta, all’informazione, alla trasparenza, invece di prendere spunto da queste realtà locali che si danno da fare per preservare il territorio con le sue caratteristiche qualità ambientali e di offerta dei prodotti.
Let me know what’s in the minds of those who gave heed to the false rumours and declined to buy an absolutely genuine and more controlled product.
I want to know why the big industry should always put itself on the top step and take away from us the right to choose, to information, transparency, instead of taking the cue from these local realities that try to preserve the land and its characteristics of environmental quality and product offerings.
