Non chiudete la Città dell’Altraeconomia!!! / Please do not close the City of Alternativeconomy!!!

Vorrei spendere più di due parole riguardo un posto eccezionale che sta per essere, ahimé, chiuso, la Città dell’Altraeconomia.
Vi ricordate? Ve ne avevo accennato poche settimane fa, in occasione di “ManiFESTAti”, la festa di Mani Tese, a cui avevo preso parte lo scorso 2 settembre.
Bene, in quell’occasione, avevo scoperto quest’oasi di creatività, di produttività, di cultura e solidarietà nel cuore della capitale. Una “città” nella città che aggiunge valore a quello che Roma rappresenta, il crogiuolo di culture, di arte, di iniziative che è sempre stata.
I want to spend more than two words about an extraordinary place that alas will be closed, the City of Alternativeconomy.
Do you remember? I’ve told you some weeks ago, when I was posting about ‘ManiFESTAti’, the ManiTese feast, where I took part on September 2.
Well, in that occasion, I discovered this oasis of creativity, productivity, culture and solidarity, in the heart of the capital. A ‘city’ in the city, that adds value to Rome, the centre of cultures, arts, initiatives as it ever was.

La Città dell’Altraeconomia, nel quartiere Testaccio di Roma, è situata in parte degli edifici dell’ex-mattatoio, che sono stati riqualificati e restituiti ai cittadini con una serie di iniziative inaugurate circa tre anni fa. Negli stessi corpi-fabbrica sorgono un centro sociale e una galleria d’arte contemporanea che spesso accoglie artisti giovanissimi e pieni di talento. Si era pensato, quindi di accostare a questo centro creativo un luogo che potesse essere punto di incontro per i creativi e i produttori locali nel segno della sostenibilità ambientale.
Così la “città” ospita uno spazio adibito a vetrina del riuso e del riciclo creativo, un mercato che offre prodotti di agricoltura biologica, uno spazio per il commercio dei prodotti equo-solidali, un ristorante e un bar bio-eco-equo, un centro di formazione per la comunicazione e di recupero di hardware, e ancora offre competenze sul turismo responsabile, sulle energie rinnovabili, sulla finanza etica!
The City of Alternativeconomy, in the quarter of Testaccio in Rome, is located in part of the buildings of the old slaughterhouse, which was renovated and given to citizens with a series of initiatives, three years ago. Near to the ‘city’, in the same buildings there are a social club and a contemporary art gallery that often hosts young artist with great talent. They added to this creative places a meeting point for local artists and manufacturers in the sign of environmental sustainability.
So, the ‘city’ hosts a space for showing reuse and recycle art crafts, an organic farmer market, an area for fair-trade products, organic-green-fair-trade restaurant and café, a training centre for communication and hardware recycle, and also responsible tourism, renewable energies and ethical finance!

Insomma, come dice Letizia Palmisano sul suo blog:

“Questo spazio non è stato un semplice ‘centro commerciale sostenibile’ […]. E’ stato, secondo un preciso progetto avviato dalle oltre 60 realtà che hanno animato il Tavolo dell’Altra Economia cittadino e condiviso con il Comune, uno “luogo” pubblico importante per Roma. Sale, piazzale, spazi di mostra e di vendita sono stati frequentati con regolarità da centinaia di migliaia di persone nel corso dello scorso anno, hanno ospitato oltre 500 eventi tra convegni, conferenze stampa, eventi, spettacoli, mostre, incontri, dibattiti, presentazioni, seminari, laboratori, corsi. Centinaia di bambini e ragazzi delle scuole romane ma non solo hanno imparato in queste occasioni come crescere, studiare, vivere in modo più consapevole e sostenibile.”

In short, with the words of Letizia Palimsano on her blog:

“This place wasn’t a simple ‘sustainable mega-store’ [...]. Due to a precise project – started from the 60 citizens associations belonging to the Alternative Economy Table and shared with the Municipality – it was a very important public place for Rome. Halls, square, showrooms and shops were regularly attended by thousand hundred people in the last year and hosted more than 500 events among meetings, press reports, happenings, shows, exhibitions, debates, presentations, seminars, laboratories, courses. Hundred children and teens from the schools of Rome and around, learned here how to grow, study, live in a more sustainable and conscious way.”

Il mio personale approccio con questo posto, che ho potuto solo conoscere parzialmente, è stato davvero entusiasmante! Che peccato esserne venuta a conoscenza solo dopo essermi trasferita da Roma. Del resto è stato inaugurato proprio dopo la mia partenza. Ed ora verrà già chiuso. Perché?
In realtà non è ben chiaro il motivo, sembra che l’area pubblica sia destinata ad essere privatizzata, lasciando solo gli spazi dedicati all’agricoltura e alle energie rinnovabili.
Così si chiuderebbe un capitolo felice della storia di Roma, chiuderebbe un luogo che avrebbe potuto accogliere sempre nuova gente in questi posti favorendo uno scambio sociale, creativo, culturale non indifferente e avrebbe potuto educare sempre di più alla sostenibilità.
My personal approach with this place – I could discover only partially – it was very enthusiastic! What a pity to know it only after I left from Rome! It was opened just after my departure. And now it has being closed. Why?
The reason is still not clear really, it seems like the public area will destined to be private, leaving only the farmer market and the renewable energy centre.
A happy chapter of Rome history will be closed so as a place where lots of new people would have come to visit, changing huge social, creative and cultural experiences. A place that would have been important for educating to sustainability.

Giorni tristi per i romani! Sosteniamoli nella loro campagna per non far chiudere la Città dell’Altraeconomia! Ce ne fossero di posti così in tutta Italia…
Bad days for inhabitants at Rome! Please sustain them with the petition for avoiding to close the City of Alternativeconomy! There aren’t places like this throughout Italy…

A colpi di weekend ecologici... / One green weekend by another

Brevemente, perché solo così posso darvi in tempo queste informazioni: in Romagna tra domani e dopodomani si svolgeranno un'altra serie di eventi ecologici a cui vi invito fortemente a partecipare, se siete in zona.
Briefly, because I can give you this information in time only in this way: between tomorrow and the day after, in Romagna there will be another series of green events I ask you strongly to participate, if you're in the area.

Il primo è il consueto appuntamento autunnale con Ecomia, la Festa dell'Economia solidale e responsabile, che questa volta si svolgerà in due sedi diverse ed in due differenti weekend, il prossimo a Riccione il 18 e 19 settembre, e poi il 2 ottobre a Rimini, in concomitanza con AmbienteFestival, la kermesse che durerà per circa un mese e ci accompagnerà all'evento finale di Ecomondo a novembre 2010.
The first is the usual autumn event with Ecomia, the Fair of Solidarity and Responsibility Economy, which this time will take place in two different locations and during two different weekends, the next in Riccione, 18 and 19 September, and then 2nd October in Rimini, in conjunction with AmbienteFestival, the event which will last for about a month and will accompany us to the final event of Ecomondo in November 2010.

Questo weekend il ricco programma della festa, che potete consultare qui, prevede anche due laboratori in collaborazione con Mani Tese Rimini, associazione di cui faccio parte come sapete. Proporremo il laboratorio "C'è compost per te" (sabato, ore 16) a cura della sottoscritta, che vi farà comprendere più da vicino l'importanza e la facilità del compostaggio domestico e il laboratorio sull'uso dei pannolini lavabili (domenica, ore 16), a cura di mamma Alessia, che farà una dimostrazione pratica di come si usano i pannolini lavabili, dei vantaggi che questi comportano, dando molte dritte a chi ne intraprenderà l'uso per i propri piccoli.
Un'occasione fantastica che potrà anche tornare utile per conoscerci.
This weekend the full program of the festival – you can give a look here – also includes two workshops in collaboration with Mani Tese Rimini the association to which I belong as you know. We will propose the laboratory "There's compost for you" (Saturday, 4 p.m.) by me – who will make you understand more closely the importance and ease of home composting – and the laboratory about the use of washable nappies (Sunday, at 4 p.m.), by the mom Alessia, who will demonstrate the practice on how to use washable nappies, their benefits, giving many tips to those who undertake to use them for their children.
A fantastic opportunity that will also be helpful to meet.

Oltre a questo grande appuntamento, se non siete proprio nella provincia di Rimini, ma più vicini a Cesena, non dovete assolutamente perdervi la Festa del Riciclo, che è arrivata alla terza edizione. L'evento è a cura di Magazzino Parallelo, patrocinato dal comune di Cesena e sostenuto dal M.I.Z. (Movimento Impatto Zero). Anche qui laboratori, musica, mercato, mostre ed incontri...
Io non potrò esserci, per ovvi motivi, ma mi piacerebbe che qualcuno di voi ci fosse, così potremo scambiarci le nostre impressioni.
In addition to this great event, if you're not in the province of Rimini, but closer to Cesena, you should not miss the Recycling Day, which is in its third edition. The event is by Parallel Storage, sponsored and supported by the town of Cesena and M.I.Z. (Zero Impact Movement). Here there will be laboratories, music, market, exhibitions and meetings too...
I can not be there, for obvious reasons, but I'd like to hear someone of you that will be there, so we can share our impressions.

Insomma, avete l'imbarazzo della scelta, no?

Eco-ingegnosi, questi romagnoli! / Green-ingenious people in Romagna! – blogpost #2

Questo è un altro della serie "mini-post" estivi (qui il post n.0 e qui il n.1).
E vabbè, l'estate sta finendo, mi direte, guardando il cielo grigio e il mare in tempesta. Ma non è detto! L'estate può continuare dentro di noi, liberando la creatività, la voglia di fare, un po' come fanno questi romagnoli in svariate occasioni.

Ok, Summer is ending, you are saying, staring at the cloudy sky and the stormy sea. But don't say the last word! Summer can continue in your heart, letting creativity free, as people in Romagna do in many occasions.

Avete, dunque, visto cosa sono capaci di fare? Due ingegnosi tavolini da bar fatti con i segnali stradali (sperando che siano stati sottratti alla discarica e non alla segnaletica stradale)! Beh, l'effetto è veramente simpatico. Se volete vederli da vicino allora recatevi in questo piccolissimo ma fantastico borgo della Romagna, Monteleone di Roncofreddo.
Anche questo è "bandiera arancione" come molti altri centri urbani romagnoli. E merita, perché oltre all'impianto urbano e al castello, c'è la presenza di piccole botteghe che offrono prodotti locali e creazioni veramente belle, come il negozietto "Antiche cose & nuove", dal quale una volta entrata non volevo uscire più!
So, did you see what they are able to do? Two ingegnous tables for cafè, made with road signs – hoping that they were taken away from landfill and not from road – !
Well, they are very funny. If you want to give them a closer look, go to visit this very little but fantastic village of Romagna, Monteleone of Roncofreddo.
This centre is awarded with the "Orange Flag" like others in Romagna, and it deserves, because with the exception of the urban settelment and the castle, there is the presence of little shops with local products and beautiful handcrafted objects, like the "Antiche cose & nuove" shop, where I lost myself!

Vi consiglio, poi, una passeggiata proprio nella prossima domenica, o di lunedì, perché c'è la Sagra dei Fichi e il Mercatino del Baratto, come indica questa locandina. Io spero vivamente di ritornarci! Ditemi che non sono l'unica a cui piacciono i fichi! :) E poi come non rinunciare all'ecologissima pratica del baratto?
Then I suggest a walk just next Sunday, or Monday, when the Feast of figs and swap market will take place, as the bill says. I strongly hope to be there. I'm not the one who likes figs, or not? :) And, then, how to miss the very green swap practise?

Un'unica raccomandazione: fate attenzione alle strade per arrivare a Monteleone! Sono alquanto strette e tortuose e la nostra "Celestina" per poco non ci lasciava... le ruote! :)
Forse sarà per le strade fatte così che hanno eliminato un po' di cartelli stradali? :D
Just a recommendation: beware of the roads to Monteleone! They are very narrow and winding and our "Celestina" almost left its wheels behind!
Perhaps it was for this reason that people took away some road signs there? :D
